Took the grandkids here, they had fun. We got there on Saturday about 11am, it wasn't very busy yet. It did get much busier by about 1pm. We brought our own tubes so we didn't have to rent theirs. The line to go down the river was pretty long but there was a staff person there controlling the tubers, which I thought was good & another worker a bit lower helping the tubers that kinda gathered in the pooled area to keeper the flow of tubers moving down the river.

The pool at the bottom was the saving grace of our trip here. I brought my 9 and 11 year old here. My husband and I got stuck all the way down. Very shallow in some spots where the tube just got stuck. Getting stuck behind rocks also on the way was hard to get out of. I would bring your own tubes with no mess and bottom to save you the $6 of getting stuck. I just ended up floating around the bottom in circles which was the highlight. Good for kids to go down who are skinny or younger. But if you have older kids or want to go as adults just float on the bottom for free. I was so disappointed because my friends had a blast here back in the day when it was deeper. They said its a lot worse and shallow now. Made more for small children. Gave a 3 because my kids enjoyed themselves even though they got frustrated getting stuck.

The water level is so low that anyone over a certain weight cannot go down the rapids on a tube. I went thinking I could put my 3 year old on my lap and go down and sadly we were stuck in one spot and would hit the bottom when going down the slides. It is made for YOUNG children weighing a certain weight. It's very busy in the summer and there is not much water at the bottom for swimming/playing. Not as great as I thought it would be.

Whomever designed that lazy river should be fired. Hard porous rock lines the "river" which hurts your feet and hands. However more importantly the last bend WHIPS you around spinning uncontrollably, my feet slammed into the side cutting them up. But a little girl no older than 8 smacked her head leaving it bleeding. In wouldn't take my family here, not worth the injury.

Gorgeous gem right in the city of Red Deer, Alberta offers a natural water experience soft sliding down a gently sloped stream, space for picnics, gatherings small and larger, and fun for all ages. The surroundings are lush and beautiful, also relaxing and there is no admission charge. The grandkids had a blast, and both parent and grandparent enjoyed this great day outdoors. Check it out on line. Bring a picnic lunch. 👍

I love discovery Canyon because of the fact that in this cold side of the Canada you can actually do water tubing. Last time I had water tubing was in the Philippines, strong water and warm or should I say hot weather. Its a short man made river in the middle of a golf course. If you bring your own food, the only expense will be for the Tube Rental. Tube rental is 5 dollar but they require 15 dollar deposit so you pay 20 dollar out right and they will return the 15 after. Bring waterproof camera and choose a smaller tube for more fun since you will have higher tendency to flip over the tube and into the water. I have recorded 1 friend of mine flipping over. We brought our own food but they do have a small cafeteria beside the tube rental where you can purchase snacks at reasonable price.

This could be a really fun time for all age groups if some young people didn't jump in wherever they felt like it,instead of waiting their turn. Supervision is required on busy hot weekends
Ran out of large tubes, perhaps a weight requirement would help
we watched several youngsters as they were tipped over by larger exuberant kids jumping in to lazy river.
this place was packed with people and the usual lack of parental supervision over kids behaviour was inevitable

Discovery Canyon was not what I expected... (i thought it was river float that took a few hours)... its one lazy river that takes about 2-5 minutes to go down, and you do it over and over. My 9 year old loved it, and I wish I would've brought my 3 year old (but like I said, I thought it was a river float).
Area was VERY clean. Only $5 to rent a tube, or you can bring your own float. No charge for parking, it was nice going some where that didn't suck every penny out of you. Will def be back with my whole family, it was worth the 2 hour drive from Edmonton. Plan to stay the day, pack a lunch/snacks/drinks, or you can buy it there at the concession.

I have younger kids (5, 4, 3) and we took them to Discovery canyon today. It was a ton of fun for my kiddo's. The water is about mid-thigh deep (the deepest area is just at the end of the lazy river and thats closer to waist deep but no one plays there b/c of all the tubes coming down). We had life jackets and that sufficed to keep my 3yo safe & gave her some independence! I would suggest bringing some sort of life jacket device if you have littles.
They do offer tube rentals there, however, bring your own. I say this because we went on a Thursday. And it was incredibly busy. Busy enough that when we went to rent a tube, we stood in line for a really long time. Turns out, they were waiting for tube returns, to immediately rent out. They had run out of their reserve of tubes. That was a bit of a bummer. There was a Canadian Tire 10 min away and I just bought 3 tubes from there for $10 each.
The lazy river was fun. My kids LOVED it! However, if your kids are a bit lighter in weight, go down with them. Most of the river is fine, if your an adult you'll bottom out for sure (just lift your butt!) and you'll do ok. However, the end of the lazy river is a curved portion and it forces tubes against the rocks. My son hit those rocks and his tube flipped up and he scratched his back on the rocks. He's 4 and I was holding onto his tube, so I would suggest just having a bigger kid ride down with them on the same tube or an adult.
The wading area is wonderful for kids. There are random spots with rocks on the bottom that do make it tough to walk on and hurt a bit, but it is mostly sand. The rocks are mostly at the end of the lazy river when you dismount from your tube.
As for places to sit. There is a lot of areas to sit, however a large portion of it is on a hill or on the sand. There is very limited flat areas to set up camp that is near the water so you can keep an eye on kids. They do have a few picnic tables available (most are in places where you cannot see the kids in the water, so we chose to just set up on the hill). There is sand. Lots of sand and it gets on everything & everywhere. I'm not a sand person, so this wasn't ideal, but its really typical for a beach. Bring something to make shade! Not a lot of shade options on an bright day.
There is also a concession stand there if you want to purchase snacks. There is a fair amount of walking from the parking lot to the swimming area. I did not see any showers there, but they do have bathrooms/change rooms.
It was definitely fun and worth the drive for us (we drove from Edmonton). It was a wonderful day to spend a hot summer day!

I hadn't been here since I was a child, and at the time the place was still in the process of being built. 20 years later, while just on a drive around town, I thought I would take a look and see if it was still there. It is & the previously mentioned construction is long over. It looks really good, but I am past the age where I could jump in and have fun. May come back again and hike the green spaces or go to the driving range at the adjacent golf course thought.

Is this activity close to red lodge provincial park for camping? We are headed there and wanted to try the tubing. Is it close enough to bike to from there?
