We've been through this park on previous long walks through Red Deer in the off season. And in the off season, it's a bit of bust, but this visit, we did stop here and actually had a picnic lunch. There are indeed many picnic sites, and there the washrooms are open in the summer. So if you need a place just to sit and relax under big trees, quiet, but not too remote, this would be a good choice in Red Deer.…

In the summer, with its riverside location, good parking, and proximity to the downtown area, this park is quite lovely. But on our visit here in the winter, when whiling away the hours at the picnic tables is not really in the cards, it's just another snowy green space. But if walking is your thing, there are some lovely nature trails just to the north, and we think this park is on the Trans Canada Trail / The Great Trail, for those into more distant travel.…

We were visiting in December, so you wouldn't expect a lot of action in the picnic area or the playground. It was very, very cold, but during a warm spell, we're sure brave people could try to picnic in the beautiful shelter. There's also a fine playground, just waiting for the kids to come out and play. For nature lovers, Piper Creek leaves the park on the north end where the parking area is, and there are sure to be birds and other wildlife about.…
