My wife and I loved walking through Chemainus and looking at many different murals. They do give a background of the history of this area. Loved the art work. It is worth a stop when travelling to Victoria or going up to Nanaimo to stop and take a look.

We didn’t take an official Mural tour, but rather an informal walk led by a cousin that lives there. There are many different styles of murals, some being rather basic, to some very detailed and beautiful murals. There was also one that was statues in front of a mural that gave it a stand 3-D view. All complimented the town well, and you get in a lovely walk . It’s nice to see a town that has managed to avoid getting commercialized like so many other towns with tourist attractions.

The legendary mural town, the overall feeling of the scenic spot is cleaner and tidier than Duncan.
You can also follow the yellow footprints on the ground to see all the murals.
The murals have various styles, and the overall is not bad. Some murals show the town's previous appearance, which is quite interesting.
I saw a former train station, which was very small and mini.

The Chemainus Murals have become famous for this small community. Several artists created something positive out of a dire situation when the town suffered much economic hardship in the 1980's. Chemainus is known as the "Mural Town".
The town is not big. You can collect a walking map at the visitors center and walk at leisure, following the "yellow steps" painted on sidewalks.
It doesn't take more than 45 minutes to see the majority of the murals. Many are located in parking lots, which when the lot is full, it's difficult to photograph the painting.
The Chemainus wall mural project started the early 1980'sToday there are over 41 murals and still growing.

I feel that the town is getting a little past it's best before date as a tourist attraction. Some murals and the yellow footprints were faded, and this was rather telling of the whole experience. Visitor Info Centre was friendly and helpful, but unless you are Really into the murals, there isn't much else for you here. I went with a family with a tween and a teen and it was very ho hum. We picnic-ed in the main park between the upper and lower part of the town...empty liquor bottles littered the park and overall the town centre felt like it needed some TLC. I feel bad to write a negative review, because I know Chemainus has tried hard over the years, but it could use some perking up.

I love the murals! You can doing a walking tour by following the footsteps through the city , on a horse drawn trolley, or by car to see all the wonderful hand painted murals. Don't forget to get a paper brochure from the Tourist building located by the water wheel. Wonderful little shops to browse through, great restaurants, water views, etc. An excellent day long attraction!!

I found this gem on Tripadvisor, and it's well worth the time. It's only 2km off BC-1. Be sure to stop at the Visitor's Center and get the booklet that tells the story about each mural--there are 47, and still growing! It's a bit of a treasure hunt! We enjoyed the walk, the stories and the art. We spent about an hour here, but you could spent as little or as long as you want. Again, a worthwhile side trip!

As “art” goes, it is excellent to “not so much”, but as a free way to spend a few hours on a nice day, this is a great stop. Along with the history written on or near most of them, a worthwhile experience.

These murals are well done, and great to see the history of the town. Some very talented people have both thought to do this, as well as painted them.

Our B&B suggested we take a look at the mural trail and so we stopped at the tourist office where we were able to get a leaflet all about them and a map with the trail. The murals are large and on varied subjects, we really enjoyed wandering around finding them all.

By car it's about an hour and a quarter. Well worth the trip. It's a pretty wee town. Check out the visitor centre for a map of the murals.
