This was a birthday party for 10 and 11 year old girls. They each received a bit of instruction that it was over and above what I expected. The very basics of riding were conveyed in a simple and easy to grasp way.
The girls had a blast and were asking to ride again by the end. Very professional and knowledgeable. Lovely horses

My wife and I recently did the Classic Trail Ride Program at Okanagan Stables, and it was a fantastic experience! The one-hour ride took us through some beautiful, scenic trails, providing stunning views of the Okanagan landscape. The horses were well-trained, gentle, and clearly well-cared-for, making the ride smooth and enjoyable for both beginners and more experienced riders.
The guides were professional and friendly, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and safe throughout the ride. The only thing we wished for was a bit more time on the trail—it was such a peaceful and enjoyable experience, we didn’t want it to end!

My daughters and I had a wonderful experience with Sharon and the crew. I had not ridden for many years, and my daughters were not avid riders either, but the folks at Okanagan Stables made sure they went through training us and helping us feel comfortable with our horses. I would highly recommend this adventure for families! Next time it will be a swim with the horses for our family :) Thank you again!

Horseback riding is something we see everyday but for me I was what they call a “never ever” so it was on my bucket list. What can I say …amazing staff, knowledgeable, supportive and kind. The horses were beautiful and gentle. TYSM for an unforgettable time. A must-go!

We did the ride and swim option as a surprise for my sister for her birthday. Her and her son went for the trail ride and swim. Her son had a great time on the trail ride and a blast swimming with the horses but my sister mentioned to me the owner was quite…. Stern, short, and even rude. It was just them on the trail ride and of course my 8 year old nephew had questions! After 3/4 questions, Peter had enough. And basically repeatedly told my nephew to stop talking. ( He was serious )
The trail ride portion was only about a half hour which was shorter than expected but still a good little ride.
I met them at the beach where they were to swim with the horses to get some good pictures for them (I’m a photographer) - From nearly the beginning, it was apparent Peter was… odd.
He made comments about one woman being “chunkier so he wouldn’t do what he did to the skinny girl” ( push her off the horse in the water ) He repeatedly told my nephew to just stop talking… And the way he spoke to and treated the volunteer girls that were there with him was just rude.
The swimming portion was quite unique and I’m sure my sister and nephew will never forget it, but that being said, if he’s still the one to run the program, we wouldn’t book again.

Great Ride!
I phoned in advance and spoke to peter about what i was looking for and knew that he would be the best person to trust in putting my 3 year old on his horses.
(They provided her and I with a staff member to lead the horse, while letting her feel like she was in control the whole time)The comments about him being stern and a perfectionist are entirely true, and that is why i brought my child here to ride. The staff were very hands on and informative with every step of the ride. This was not only a " pony ride" for kids but a riding lesson before we began, they took the time to see that everyone was comfortable on the horses before we ventured up the mountain paths. It was a very relaxed environment and we were all comfortable. The views from the property was beautiful as we weaved through the mountain side.
If you are looking to walk in to a stables that is pristine condition and they throw you on a horse to follow them around then look elsewhere.

In the early part of July 2012, my 13 year old son and myself went on a vacation to Kelowna. While there we went for a horseback ride at Okanagan Stables. We own 2 of our own horses and have been on several international trail rides and have never experienced such awful service. On the way back from our trail ride, my horse spooked badly and I was thrown off from the horse. I lay on the ground for several minutes before someone came to my aid. The "professional" instructor said "are you ok?" and without checking to see if I was hurt or in shock he told me to get back on another horse and finish my ride. I can honestly say that I was in so much shock that I do not remember my 10 minute ride to the stables, but what I do remember is that he was quick to ask for my Visa so I could complete my payment and then he sent me and my son on our way without even asking if I needed a drive home. Needless to say I went straight to the hospital where I stayed for the day. I have been off work since with a contusion of the sacrum and a moderate to severe concussion.
I know we signed the waiver, but to not due your due diligence as a business owner let alone a human being is disgraceful. Accidents do happen and I am well aware of that, but to not offer some sort of assistance (call for medical help, glass of water, call the next day, etc...) to check in is bad business. I will tell everyone I know to not go there!!!

i am quite shocked to read your side of the story..... when i reached you had already stood up and brushing yourself off stating you were ok (it does take a moment to secure my horse )
had you still been on the ground i would have asked you NOT TO MOVE till i made a full assessment of possible injuries. But.you insisted you were ok and you mounted the horse unassisted, on the return trip i asked you several time if you were ok and you responded positively .okanagan stables is the only adventure operation that does NOT TAKE PAYMENT UP FRONT and the reasons are twofold you trust us with your life and we trust you with our money and if you feel we have not earned the payment for our services you have the chance right then and there to say so and if not getting payed for our service to make a customer happy we will not deny them SINCERELY PETERO

Very friendly staff, beautiful horses, enjoyed the lesson, short trail ride and time in the water. But experience was ruined and wanted to leave partway through because of rude owner spending most of the time criticizing his staff. Might be ok for adults but children shouldn't be around swearing and almost verbally abusing behaviour. I felt very uncomfortable.

.Horses and being around them is serious business . I remind my riders and staff that they have to be in alpha mode to stay safe and not spoil the horse and yes that is reflected in my manner, pronunciation and conduct ,which i hope my staff and riders will pick up on and not let a 1000 lb OF HORSE walk all over them. I have been doing this for over 30 years and i know i have a unique approach that works for me. For 20 years i worked in the ski industry in the off season as ski board instructor and they called me sergeant peter for a reason.

It seemed like a trip with a lot of potential as the area has beautiful views. The owner spent too much time training his staff and we spent over an hour getting ready and very little time on the trails. There was an unforeseen issue with shooting targets being set up along the trail and the fake animals scared the horses. It was a very unenjoyable ride and when it came time to pay we were unhappy with how the owner handled feedback. The rates should have been adjusted more for the training and shortened ride.

We had called ahead to make reservations for our ride. Was told it would roughly be a 2hr trip. The 1st hr was mostly spent on the owner training his staff. His unique fowl mouth way of training was entertaining, but I felt bad for the staff. The pamphlet was miss leading... It says horseback riding. It was actually horseback leading. A instructor guided each horse from the road, down to the lake. Have done horseback riding in the past with similar terrain, so was expecting horseback riding, not leading... That's when we realized, it's time to go. We did watch a bit of the horse swimming. We thought it would be more of a walk through the water on our own horse, not holding onto a horses tail. Thanks Peter for your time, but not what we were looking for or expected...

you know Gene i was not going to respond to your comments but i cant help myself . The lady with you had not ridden much and she was quite pleased about the leading part when i discussed it with her ,i do not have an extra staff leading horses ON FOOT cause they like hiking ..."walk through the water on our own horse " that is not swimming with horses and if you would have stuck around for the whole demo you would have noticed the tail swim is a practice move for the mane swim and much more ,all of which you missed . We don't charge up front ! you pay after for a REASON!!!! In your case i wish otherwise and have gladly send you on your way with your money in my pocket after you gave my staff the B,S. about some boat reservation . hope you had a nice hike back .
