- busybeeee2016Haywards Heath, United Kingdom47 contributionsStunning sceneryThis appealed because the trail was described as flat! You approach by a windy steep road but once at the top there are plenty of parking spaces. We hired the bikes online the day before and collecting them was straightforward + helmets are included. I am not a great fan of heights and at first I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this and I would say the first km or so seems to be the most daunting but maybe that is just getting used to it. After that I loved it. The trail is beautiful and not taxing at all. There are plenty of places to stop for a rest / snack and enjoy the stunning scenery. I went with my husband and we both really enjoyed it. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Kelowna. It was a bit chilly at this time of year so I would take a hoodie or gilet.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 13, 2024
- Annie MBrighton and Hove, United Kingdom337 contributionsStunning scenery and a great walkLoved the walk along the Myra Canyon Park. Didn’t quite make it to the end - but close. Fantastic to see the work that was done to restore the trestles after the fire - well done to all concerned. The views on the walk were stunning and if you don’t fancy the walk you can hire a bike.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 5, 2024
- Justine28Yellowknife, Canada2,190 contributionsBeautiful and easy family cycling tripVisited Myra Canyon recently on bikes that we rented from Myra Canyon Bicycle Rental and Tours. Bikes can be booked online in advance and collected from the east entrance to the canyon. We had a group of 4 including seniors and the ride was easy and mostly flat, and comfortable for all levels of experience. Beautiful views and many opportunities to stop for a photoshoot. We were going very slowly and stopped a lot on the way back, and the tour took less than 3 hours. The trail is also used by hikers. It was quite busy when we were there in early August. Highly recommend this part of the KVR trail and the bike rentals themselves.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 9, 2024
- Daniel BSherbrooke, Canada3 contributionsFalling for the rideMy favorite outdoor activity in Kelowna. Spectacular scenery to see thanks to community built/maintained infrastructure. The history of this 10km old railway line is almost as interesting as the route, which is almost flat. Bike rentals are easy and worth the price.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten September 14, 2024
- FredColby, Kansas45 contributionsGreat Hike or BikeGreat views, bike not needed but you can see more of the trail with a bike. Hiked in to the first trestle (about 1KM or 1/2 mile) and views of the forest, valley, Kelowna are very nice and peaceful (on a Tuesday). Saw others reviews complaining about the road to the trail head. Really? There were probably 50 vehicles at the trail head when we arrived from micro cars to pickup trucks. The road is not that bad. Rental bikes starting at $50 per 4 hours seems excessive.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten September 24, 2024

The stunning beauty of Myra Canyon is worth driving on an eight kilometers stretch of very rough graveled road with many huge potholes. It was an absolute joy to walk the trail over the trestles and through the tunnels ! And the bikers love it too ! The highlights are knowing the history of this section of Kettle Valley Railway, many trestles and two tunnels, fantastic views of the canyon as well as part of the city of Kelowna and fresh mountain air. We loved visiting this place !

This has been on our radar for a while and we finally made the trek. It had threatened rain in the morning which thinned the crowds substantially and made the 11 km ride to Ruth Station and back quite a bit more enjoyable. Given that most of the trestles are only wide enough for single file I can see how large crowds would make for slow going, so it is definitely worth timing your visit for off-peak times.
The last few km's of the road are gravel which is rough in places, but certainly manageable in any kind of vehicle.
This was well worth the effort to visit and ride.

The whole trail is over 11 km between the two stations. Bike is easy. Hiking is actually better to appreciate the whole trail. For partial run, the Myra Station side is better since the area is more open and the Trestles are closer and more frequent. The only disappointed thing are no WC in-between and long gravel road sections leading up to either stations.

We had a great morning ad Myra Canyon. After pickup by our guide Maarten and a scenic trip to the Canyon we collected our bikes to enjoy a super bike ride of 24 km over the Kettle Valley railroud tracks. Beautiful views over the Canjon al the way to lake Okenagan and astonishing historic engineering. Amazing how they build al the bridges and tunnels. Thanks Maarten for your enthusiasm in sharing information and stories which brought this part of Canadian history alive.

Highly recommend this beautiful trail in winter, but with elevation over 1200 metres be prepared with cold weather gear - boots, hat, warm jacket, etc. While Kelowna was sunny and springlike, the Myra Canyon Trail was covered in fresh snow and the wind was blowing. The road up was plowed, but still tricky. Once on the trail, a narrow path was compacted and walkable, but one step to the side to let someone pass meant you were up to mid calf in deep snow. Round trip from the Myra entrance over seven trestles to the tunnel and back was 5 km.

The rental of the bikes and the views were incredible, no issues at all. The trail is indeed flat and not a lot of effort is needed to ride. However, for anyone with even a remote fear of heights, do a bit of research before you go. The entrances to the trestles need to be made safer, the sides of the trestle as you enter them are completely open and without any sort of safety fence on each side. No idea why this hasn’t been done yet. There are also a number of areas along the trail that could use a simple safety fence, it wouldn’t ruin the views and would make for a much safer ride. If you are hiking, no worries. But on a bike, with a lot of people on the trail and passing each other on some of the narrow trestles ... Again, worth the trip, but worth investigating a bit to understand the trail you will be riding on. Do a google search and you’ll get a better perspective.

This trail across numerous trestles (18?) has spectacular views and is not difficult from the point of climbing hills. The trail has a slight grade, approximately 1%, so appears flat at most places but returning on the upgrade is a little harder. It is wide enough to accommodate traffic in both directions. The trestles have a flat surface and guard rails on both sides. The views are amazing and deer can be seen along the way at times. If you go at the right time of year wild berries are numerous (until all picked). The trail is 11km one way (22 km round trip) but you can turn around anytime. Rentals are at both ends of the trail. Very family friendly and not a difficult ride for anyone. The only negative is that it is not an easy drive up to the start (gravel road, quite bumpy for the last 8km) but well worth the trip. Bring water and snacks.

If this was anywhere else in Canada, there would be lawyer speak signs and guardrails…but I think BC has determined that everywhere is dangerous so you are on your own. The views are outstanding and it’s true that one wrong step near the side for most of the walk is instant death. I wanted to punch some of the cyclists especially the ones filming as they ride - I saw one drive off the trail into the inside of a trestle - lucky dude. We left the kids at home because they didn’t want to go, but in some ways that decision made the visit more enjoyable.

After following the 8k dirt access road, we arrived at 8 am to a mostly empty parking lot. It was 2 degrees cooler at the top than in the city. We walked from the Myra Canyon end point to the end of trestle #5 which is just over 6k one way. We crossed 14 trestles and went through the two tunnels. Loved the views! On the way back, we encountered lots of traffic (cyclists and pedestrians) on the way back. We really enjoyed the panels along the path explaining the history of the railway and the path. Kudos to the volunteers who support this.

Is it possible to do this hike in winter?
What’s the best way to get out there?
Thanks in advance

Hello, is it feasible to drive from Big White Village to Myra Canyon entrance? If so, can anyone suggestion a route from Big White. I can only find direction from Kelowna. We are on a tight timeline and would love to set aside 4 hours to do this. Thanks!
Written December 7, 2019
There is a way to cut through east kelowna to kettle valley but unless you are very familiar with rural kelowna roads it is unlikely it will save you time.
I'd suggest follow hwy 33 down to Springfield rd exit. Then take it to benvoulin rd thenback up to Myra canyon. There will be signs showing the route from there.
Due to speed limits and the number of turns and bridges the other way is unlikely to save you time.
Big white to myra will be 1.5 to 2hrs drive on a good day.

Is it possible to do the trail on a 10 speed road bike vs a mountain bike?
Written September 29, 2019
This could really only be done comfortably on the rail and tunnel portion from Myra to about the 12 km portion south toward Penticton. Anything past that, I firmly believe you would be very frustrated and disappointed.

I am a good cyclist, but because of my leg injury, I can push the pedal with force of one leg , so just can cycle in flat routes. Whant to know if the route is flat almost flat ( if not I must walk with my bicycle! ) and if it is steep in some parts, renters have electric bikes?
Another question : if I want to walk, I can do not more than 3km, better to start in which place?
Written September 4, 2019
Sorry, didn’t realize I had a question... I would only recommend starting at the Myra Canyon end. To start in Penticton would be a very, very challenging endeavour...I would not even do it that way.
As for your other question, I think you would have extreme difficulty with only one power leg. It’s possible but one would have to be in awesome shape. The challenge is not the grade but the amount of sand and rock. I would think you may have to walk some of the legs.
Hope this helps.

I'd like to know about the height - hubby is afraid of heights - is hiking going to be problem? How fay would we be able to get into the trail before it got too much? Obviously its a personal . thing/preference, but I'm wondering about other's experience
Written June 18, 2019
The trestles have been designed for safe, foot traffic. While they are quite high, it is very easy to stay in the middle of the walkway and not have to look straight over the edge.

Hello,
Would there also be bikes available to transport a disabled person?
Thank you for a suggestion how to arrange.

Based on my experience at Myra Canyon I would say no.

Hello! Does anyone know if it’ll be too cold to do cycle on the trestles in a few days’ time? Many thanks!

Just dress warm and you will enjoy the ride especially if the sun is out. I have done the trestles and headed towards Chute Lake and ended up in a rain storm and we just peddled faster to get back lol! Usually the rain doesn’t last long anyways. Enjoy!

Yes, it is preferable. A road bike might be OK but if you have both definitely take the hybrid. I wouldn’t wake my road bike on the path but then I have a choice.
