The museum spans the history of Nanaimo in culture, politics, industry, etc. I found the typical dry goods storefront from the 1800's interesting and the mine exhibit worth a look. The lanterns for lighting was a nice touch. Mostly photo oriented rather than actual items on display although the bathtub race tub was among larger items I found enjoyable. Certainly... More

This is a well laid out and very interesting museum, the displays are organized and reflect a huge amount of history and fact about the Nanaimo area and the city in particular. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of artifacts that reside here and their uniqueness to the locale....I only had about 2 hours and that was not enough... More

Being a huge history fan I was a little disappointed to see numerous interesting museum displays unmarked with dates. Dates really add to the context of history to how an item is placed in time so you can understand events in the past. But aside from that the museum does have some great history of Nanaimo during the post-colonial era... More

WE visited the Museum for the first time this summer and were pleasantly surprised as to how well it was set up. The exhibits offered a good variety of the history of Nanaimo, including the Mining & logging industry. Well worth a visit.

Enjoyed a wonderful visit to this smaller museum and what a pleasure it was. While the museum is not large, it does a great job of depicting Nanaimo's history. The gallery dedicated to coal mines is well done. They have displayed a wonderful array of artifacts related to the area. I highly recommend anyone visit the museum if you are... More

Don't miss this museum. It may be small but its big in heart. In addition to special displays they have a great permanent display on the local First Nations that is second to none. The gift shop is great and there's a place to have coffee right next door. Plus you're on a very interesting street with great shops, bars... More

We had been up island for a few days and on our way home, decided to visit the museum. The heavy rain put a damper on a walk or hike. The museum does an excellent job of showing the early history of Nanaimo. How it got started, the coal mines, logging, lumber and fishing industries that still exist today. Oops!!... More

This small and compact museum covers the history and resource industries of the Nanaimo area. The admission is quite inexpensive. The museum includes an exceptional gift shop with reasonable prices.
