The young woman doing the walks needs to take two trips. One, to Protection. Island to see the point where hangings took place and two, a ghost walk with John Adams from Discover the Past tours in Victoria. Her obsession with bus noise and constant comments about buses could be helped with a portable microphone and amplifier (which tour guides... More

Taking my granddaughter out to the museum was a great activity - Nanaimo's museum staff have all kinds of hands-on learning activities for kids, including special events (like a wonderful Christmas elves' workshop, etc.!). But the museum is engrossing not only for kids, but for adults, too - we learned so much about this little city and the surrounding area,... More

We spent a couple of hours on a rainy Saturday afternoon looking at the displays and reading the information on the history of Nanaimo. Really interesting and well presented. Lots of seating so you do not have to stand on the concrete floor the whole time, and you can relax and soak it all in.

After living in the area for years I finally went to the Nanaimo museum. It far surpassed my expectations. The museum does an excellent job representing Nanaimo's coal mining history, four China towns, the First Nations, and the bath tub race. The permanent exhibits are well organized with an impressive amount of interesting information. Equally impressive was the exhibit, '... More

For a small town museum I found it quite good. It wont take to long to go through it, maybe a hour. Its a great way to learn about Nanaimo and surrounding area.

This local museum is small but offers a cafe, a shopping space and a history of the local area. There is a small entry fee. If you are new to the area, as we were, it gives an insight into its development from swampy marsh to busy port and harbour.

Charming small museum with good exhibits that are both permanent and others that are changed on a regular basis. Great gift shop as well.

I've lived in Nanaimo 4 years and only recently attended an event at the Nanaimo Museum. As someone with a background in public history design, I don't expect much from museums in small/mid-sized cities, but I was blown away by how good the Nanaimo Museum is - entertaining and just the right amount of displays/info. It's a steal at only... More

Thank you so much for the 5-Star review - we really appreciate it! It is always gratifying to hear that we are doing a good job, especially from someone who understands the challenges of running a smaller museum with a limited budget and much less staff than the big guys! Beyond the fundraising aspect of venue rental, we also love... More
