A short passenger ferry ride from Nanaimo. Good walking trails in a woodland setting. Wildlife abounds from rabbits to deer. Campsites available.

With coal mines and sandstone mines this island is fascinating. Great beaches for swimming and good docking for boats. Very near the Dingy Dock Pub for great food. A must when you visit Nanaimo.

This easy jaunt is just a short ferry ride from Maffeo Sutton Park and worth the trip. We caught the 10 am ferry, strolled the whole way round the island (even the point) and just made the 13:45 ferry back. We could easily have stopped...More

Most of the trails are bike-friendly. There are a few branches off the main trails where you'll want to either dismount or just put the bike away. But, generally, the island is OK for bikes.
