Best museum in the west coast by far! The exhibits are quite an amazing view that left me talking to the point of needing a bit to clam up. In addition you will see these wonderful models, uniforms, and weaponry spanning from WW1 to the modern times. Highlight is the personal tours at an affordable price with shoutout going to Rob Robinson (if I remember correctly for helping me understand with the time we had. Would visit again and you should too. If you are ever around Nanaimo ever this is the spot. Cheers from Vancouver,

A fabulous museum with a very impressive collection of displays relating to Vancouver Island’s military history since 1812.
It is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and for seniors the admission fee is only $2
You can spend a couple of hours here so we visited the museum twice during or stay in Nanaimo. They do informative tours with lots of worthwhile commentary.
We would highly recommend a visit or 2 to this important museum

A little hard to find up a dead end street, but well worth it. An inexpensive public parking garage is nearby.

We were surprised at the amount and quality of the displays in this smallish museum. The staff (volunteers?) were ready to explain, providing further information about what we were seeing.

The museum traces the history of the Canadian military with a bit about other countries. It was fascinating. We had only an hour there, unable to stay longer, but intend to return.

The price of admission is very low with discounts for veterans, even foreign veterans.

If you like military history at all, you will really enjoy this place. Be sure and talk to the volunteers, they have served and are full of great info. We learned so much and they have excellent exhibits.

One of the best i have attended. Must have several houirs to see it all, if not a day. Very well done and full of artifacts and information. Staffed by friendly people who will go out of their way to make you welcome. Ask for Pat if you want a behind the scenes tour. He is very knowledgeable about the museum and its contents

Went here on a very rainy day, in part to get out of the rain but also as my husband wanted to visit. We were luck enough to catch the start of a guided tour with another couple and thoroughly enjoyed the hour and half that it took. It is not the biggest museum you will ever visit nor does it have the most amazing exhibits but you are allowed to touch a lot of the exhibits and it feels more personal due to it's small size, so if you are in the area visit and show your support.

From the outside this museum doesn't look very big, but don't let the size fool you. We were met by a very friendly man Robert M. who took us throught the displays quickly to explain each of the displays, afterward we were able to go back and read all the displays at a slow pace. There are so many artifacts throughout the museum many of the people who served from the local area. The museum is run by volunteers from the Legion and are Veterans themselves.
The museum pays honour to the men & women that have server Canada & the USA both at home and abroad.
Well worth a visit.

This rather small museum is quite neglected I think, but it contains a wide array of artifacts from various time periods in Canadian history.

Definitely a good place to visit if you don't want to look at the usual first nations artifacts you see in museums.

I was extremely impressed with this museum. Greg is the keeper and a knowledgeable tour guide that will take his time to bestow his knowledge of our military, our role in the famous wars and it’s history, as well as all of the items on display. The items are a collection of post-war artifacts from both sides of the battle. You will find Japanese, German and of course, weapons of the Allied forces. There is a massive collection of medals that were once the possession of the heroes of our nation. Don’t rush through and set more time aside to look at the displays in detail. There’s a story behind each display.

I went to the museum with my daughter. Upon entry they asked if I was a veteran of the armed service. I said yes to the question then added that I was with the USA armed forces. They stated that they only wanted to know if I was a Veteran. At that point I was told that I was going to get a personal tour of the museum with explanations on anything I had questions of. I am a proud veteran and it makes me proud to know that VETERANS do matter. The museum is filled with wonderful history and I recommend a visit from all who want to know a bit about our history. My Father was a Veteran as well and worked for Republic Aviation building military aircraft. The museum touched my heart when I found a airplane engine on display manufactured by Republic Aviation. So many have sacrifice for us to have freedom that we enjoy today. I recommend the museum and tour for a small donation. Semper Fi.
