Let's face it: the days are long and damp during December here in the lower mainland of BC, but we still need to get out for exercise and fresh air. While heavily wooded areas like Burnaby's Central Park tend to get very soggy underfoot, this park has just the right amount of forest cover so you can be alone, but not uncomfortable. Most of the summer facilities are closed so, while you won't have the whole park to yourself, you will be able to talk to the trees and commune with nature.

Still winter, but some wonderful trails here. Coming by car? Lots of parking. Coming by bus? Go to the Medical Centre just across McBride and take the pedestrian overpass, about five minutes. There are some developed areas, like the Rose Garden, or forested areas for those looking for something more adventurous. Paved cycle routes too. I had most of the park to myself, but the off-leash dog park area was busy.
So, walk, bike, sit and enjoy nature - it's up to you.

A grand old park with paved trails, towering trees, a band shell, picnic tables, athletic fields, a gorgeous rose garden....

One of my favourite places to walk in New Westminster, indeed the whole of the Lower Mainland. But with this virus scare and "social distancing" I wondered if the park would be safe? No worries - virtually had the place to myself! This was a sunny weekday afternoon. So, if you want to have a park to yourself in the middle of the city, you will like it here. Hard to believe, you say? Check out my photos.

Walke on this trail, also suitable for wheelchairs... and enjoyed the beauty of this forested urban park with opportunities to walk, cycle, jog, picnic, skate park, play tennis, watch athletic events... It has it all

Great park for all seasons. Fun places for kids birthday parties in the summer. Just get early to grab a table. When there’s snow on the ground Queens parks better then the mountains for sledding

While most reviews are based on the park’s nature views and “walk ability”, I thought I would point out the sporting nature of the park. First though the positive reviews already posted about the park are spot on. As well though, you can see some excellent hockey games and indoor sporting events in the arena, and see lacrosse games on the field.

A must visit every time I am in New Westminster. Wonderful formal rose garden with something always in bloom. A forest in the middle of a city for peaceful walks and an art gallery where showings of local artists can be enjoyed.

On a hot sunny day this is the place you want to be. Shady and delightful. The petting zoo is relaxed and wonderful for small children. The water park is mostly shaded and the playground area huge with lots to do. There is an outdoor cafeteria for lunch and ice cream. Very enjoyable day!
