Let's face it: the days are long and damp during December here in the lower mainland of BC, but we still need to get out for exercise and fresh air. While heavily wooded areas like Burnaby's Central Park tend to get very soggy underfoot, this park has just the right amount of forest cover so you can be alone, but not uncomfortable. Most of the summer facilities are closed so, while you won't have the whole park to yourself, you will be able to talk to the trees and commune with nature.

One of my favourite places to walk in New Westminster, indeed the whole of the Lower Mainland. But with this virus scare and "social distancing" I wondered if the park would be safe? No worries - virtually had the place to myself! This was a sunny weekday afternoon. So, if you want to have a park to yourself in the middle of the city, you will like it here. Hard to believe, you say? Check out my photos.

Still winter, but some wonderful trails here. Coming by car? Lots of parking. Coming by bus? Go to the Medical Centre just across McBride and take the pedestrian overpass, about five minutes. There are some developed areas, like the Rose Garden, or forested areas for those looking for something more adventurous. Paved cycle routes too. I had most of the park to myself, but the off-leash dog park area was busy.
So, walk, bike, sit and enjoy nature - it's up to you.

What a great time to visit this urban park the fall leaves are changing colour and falling all about. The park is still busy with many people walking trails and using the areana. Enjoy

While most reviews are based on the park’s nature views and “walk ability”, I thought I would point out the sporting nature of the park. First though the positive reviews already posted about the park are spot on. As well though, you can see some excellent hockey games and indoor sporting events in the arena, and see lacrosse games on the field.

One of our favourite parks for young children. During summer break there is an activity centre for young children (free) from 11-3, one of the BEST water parks in the lower mainland and playgrounds for younger children and older one’s.
There is lots of grass and benches so even if it’s busy there will always be a place to lay down a blanket or towel.

My wife and I accompanied our daughter, son-in-law and 2 year old granddaughter, specifically for our granddaughter to visit the petting farm in Queens Park. We were able to park in the free parking lot right next to the petting farm. It is also free admission (by donation) to the petting farm. Our granddaughter was thrilled to interact with some of the free roaming animals, goats, calf, sheep etc and see rabbits, birds, peacocks etc.
Immediately outside the farm area is a spray water park and 2 playgrounds for kids of all ages. Great free fun for the family.

In summer there is a petting zoo which is great for kids of all ages, spray park, playgrounds, concession stand, picnic tables, lots of trees for shade. There is also an outdoor workout area with equipment. There are tennis courts and a soccer field. Baseball field where movies are held on friday nights in the summer. In the winter, it becomes a popular tobogganing location with a huge hill for sledding down in the snow! A gymnastics arena is located in the park as well as the arena where the Salmonbellies and other lacrosse teams play.

How long is the trail in Queens Park? Can it be used as a running trail?
Written September 26, 2016
The trail in Queen's park is quite long and would make an excellent place to run as it has several different routes you can take.
