We weren't sure the distillery was open as it was a cool and rainy day but we were greeted warmly by Anette Engel. Anette explained their interest in classic German and eastern European spirits that make use of the bounty of fruits from the local area. All based on what they knew from Germany and other countries. We enjoyed a quite lengthy tasting and pleasant conversation with Anette. Each spirit we tried was an excellent example of the style and showed lovely fruit. Their sprits show the quality of the local fruits and the skill of Jorg and Anette Engel as distillers. Sadly we were unable to take more than one bottle ( and it was difficult to pick) as we were flying and limited to weight. While we didn't see all, they Engels also keep exotic birds. Very interesting. The view from the property is lovely, even on a gray, rainy day.

While touring wine country around Osoyoos we traveled the Naramata wine bench. I was thrilled to notice a craft distillery called Maple Leaf Spirits. Years ago we had found this place right in Penticton and it was awesome to see it had been moved out onto the bench with all the other fine establishments there. Our host and creator of the fine liqueurs and spirits there sat us down on his inviting patio with stupendous views of the valley overlooking the lake. We were served a wide selection of fine spirits that he makes on the premises. He also shared his personal journey in creating his business as we sat and sipped. My all time favourite was the maple liqueur. You absolutely have to try it!

We throughly enjoyed our time with Anette Engel. She was friendly and knowledgeable. Took a lot of time explaining their processes and making us feel welcomed. The added bonus was the variety of pheasants they have on their premises
