Belated Birthday Gift
Aug. 2020
Due to the pandemic, the birthday gift planned my sister had to be postponed. Now that the Penticton Art Gallery has reopened, we went to see the Bob Ross exibition called Happy Little Accidents. All visitors are required to wear masks as a precaution when inside the Gallery. If you do not bring your own with you, masks are for sale at the door. We were given a brochure about the exhibits that also explained the rules for safety. Once inside, my sister and I searched the Bob Ross mosaic for the square that held my name. She bought me the square as a birthday gift, a very unique way to celebrate it while supporting the arts in Penticton. We located it almost immediately. We viewed the 32 paintings on display that represented his style as demonstrated on his television series, the Joy of Painting. It was difficult to pick a favorite from those hanging in the Galley. His final piece, called "Wilderness Day" concluded our tour. Like all of his works, his signature appears on the left side of this painting. Before leaving, we looked at paintings in the Project Room done by Clifford Miller, Connor Kenney and Merlin Seller.

BOB ROSS
Jul. 2020
Staff here are lovely and friendly in explaining the new rules of the gallery plus telling us about the BOB ROSS exhibition, which we came to see. Everything is quite spaced out, and the paintings were lovely. Air conditioned and extremely clean. Highly recommended!

Wonderful cultural hub in Penticton
Nov. 2018 • Friends
This art gallery really punches above its weight in terms of what you would expect from a public Art Gallery in a city the size of Penticton. They have a great collection, really nice programs, and they create and bring in the most AMAZING exhibitions that get swapped out on a regular basis, which means it's always fresh and exciting. The fearless curator has impeccable ability to choose exhibitions that are educational, provocative, and beautiful.

A gorgeous community art space!
Jun. 2018 • Couples
This a great little gallery located next to the equally excellent Ikeda Japanese Garden (that's how we discovered this place), just east of the Penticton Lakeside Resort downtown. They have three large exhibition rooms and a lovely gift shop. You know it's a good community art space when they occasionally display a lot of student art. The level of achievement here was very, very good. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and the window to the gift shop is a work of art by itself. If you're exploring downtown, you'll enjoy exploring here too!

Always a good experience.

Every now and then we drop into the Penticton Art Gallery just to see what the latest exhibition is and to take a walk through their lovely retail shop and have never been disappointed. Our December 2017 visit was during their sale and great fun.

This gallery focuses on BC artists of high artistic value. The show I saw was the Alistair Bell show of prints. Beautifully mounted by the Director/ curator. Thoughtfully put together to inform the viewer of the process that Bell used in his work.

Afghanistan Art
Nov. 2016 • Couples
I believe the show was from Afghanistan artists - my apologies if that is wrong! It was absolutely amazing. This is a small gallery but the shows are truly impressive. The staff are volunteers mainly (I think) and very pleasant. We have returned for a few other shows since. One standout was the steamboat art show. Thanks, Penticton Gallery!

A Small Art Gallery With Powerful & Thought Provoking Exhibitions
Sep. 2017 • Couples
My husband & I went to the Art Gallery to view the "Mystical Arts of Tibet." The Drepung Loseling Monks from Tibet constructed of a huge colorful sand mandala over five days to help promote world peace. We was blessed to be there on the last day as the mandela was almost complete. What an amazing opportunity!

There were several other powerful & thought-provoking exhibitions which included:

Anamnesis: Joseph M. Sánchez & Janice Tanton which provided an alternative pictorial view to the Canada 150 celebrations

Jim Logan: Requiem for Our Children was a series of paintings illustrating the stories told to Logan by residential school survivors while he was a lay preacher in the Yukon.
These paintings were so powerful & graphic that they brought tears to my eyes.

Jerry Whitehead & the students of the Sen'Pok'Chin School in Oliver with work from the Inkameep Day School Art Collection. Life seen through the eyes of Indigenous children.

Velvet Indians: Featuring the work of Gerda Christoffersen, Dorothy Oxborough, Audrey Young Oppel, Fran Jenkins, Minn Sjløseth and more. This exhibition presents an array of vintage art ranging from the 1940s to the 1970s depicting Indigenous peoples.

The art gallery also, had a lovely gift shop & art books. There was not a fee to enter the art gallery. But, a donation is appreciated.

I know that when ever I visit Penticton in the future, I will be sure to visit this art gallery.

Monks of Tibet

We went today well worth it. The art gallery is a nice small one located downtown off the lake. Very nice and seeing the monks was a perfect way to end our walk.
