About
Painted Rock offers exceptional wines for a world audience. Envisioned as a family-run estate winery, Painted Rock draws its inspiration from proprietor's John and Trish Skinner. The Skinner's philosophy is rooted in the simple idea that wine should be made for friends and family to enjoy. With a dedication to quality and a respect for the terroir, Painted Rock ensures that each grape is of superior quality, proving that the best wines are made in the vineyard. Painted Rock's latest addition is the spectacular new tasting room, wedding and events facility which overlooks the estate vineyards and Skaha Lake and provides the perfect setting for any event. Painted Rock offers a patio lounge and a grassed picnic area to sit and enjoy the views and a glass of Painted Rock wine.

I visited here last year and wrote a review detailing the amazing scenery, great wine and unparalleled insect killing ability of the mysterious white haired man in the nice car who it turns out is John, the owner. Painted rock were very gracious in their response so I was encouraged to go back.

Upon our return this year, I was at first alarmed to see that we had been set up with a private tasting hosted by John himself, the very man I had made fun of in my last review. I awkwardly tried to sink into my chair and avoid eye contact, which was tricky given he was standing about two feet directly in front of me. I felt like a child who had been summoned to the headmaster. I braced myself for a telling off.

I needn’t have worried. He couldn’t have been more gracious, informative and entertaining. Above all, his absolute passion and energy for what he does shone through. His wines, and your experience when tasting it are extremely important to him - which explains why he was so passionate in removing any distractions such as buzzing wasps or bees that might lessen your experience.

Then, when spinning his stories of hobnobbing with wine royalty such as Jan Robinson or Steven Spurrier, he introduced some of his cellar wines to try. The results were spectacular in a way that can only be achieved by someone who is very serious about what they do. This man is really, really into his wine and it shows. After days of tasting wine, these just stand out from the rest.

This is my favourite wine stop in the Okenagan. Great wine, great scenery, great people. This time there wasn’t even a single wasp to be seen outside to spoil the occasion. I think they might all be scared.

Painted Rock makes some of our favourite wines, and a stop by their tasting room is always a must-do when in the area. The tasting room building is beautiful with an expansive patio taking in amazing views, but fortunately the staff are still just as knowledgeable and passionate about the wine as they were when tastings took place in a little hut beside the vineyard. No pretentiousness, just a friendly tasting and chat about wine with people who care about it. The owner is often onsite leading individual tastings himself, and has a great memory for people he's met previously, though there have surely been thousands. The staff will mention their wine club but are not pushy about it like some other places. They offer a charcuterie plate and wine by the glass for purchase that you can enjoy on the patio - we've never done that but it looks like a nice experience if you have the time. If we had to pick just one winery to visit among all the great choices in the area, this would be the one. Highly recommend

This is an outstanding winery and vineyard. Set on the bench above Skaha Lake, their tasting room offer expansive views of the landscape and the lake. There is a beautiful patio with generous seating.

Charcutier boards are available to enjoy with your wine.

A great date afternoon for couples.

Very well manicured and laid out outdoor seating area. Sun does bear down most of the day so wish they had the umbrellas up to provide shade as was very hot for wine tastings. Stunning views . On the expensive side for tastings at $10, refunded of course on the expensive selection .

Thank you for your review! Yes, the sun does get rather hot. We do have a number of umbrellas but unfortunately due to the exposure on our site when the wind picks up it has the power to rip them straight out of the ground. This means that we aren't able to put them up on gusty days for everyone's safety. I am glad you enjoyed the views and hope we can welcome you again soon! Cheers, Lauren Skinner and the Painted Rock team

This winery is stunning. It is very modern and clean looking with a beautiful view of the lake. We enjoyed all of the wines, but our favourite was the 2016 Merlot. We also ordered a charcuterie board, it really completed the experience and I would highly recommend it.

I've been a club member for more than a year and had the chance to taste some of the wines prior to visiting. I was looking forward to this tasting.

We tasted all of their wines and it is on the top of the list of the wines we had in the valley. The reds are soooo good and will get better if aged.

We had the chance to talk with the owner, John, for a good 10 minutes. We really appreciated this. Thanks for the chat, John.

I will definitely come back to this winery when I'm back in this region.

There could not be a more beautiful setting. We expected Hugh Grant to show up. Amazingly, the wine lives up to the setting. We cannot recommend this winery highly enough. Great staff and service with stunning views. Well worth a serious detour. We will be back.

We had not heard of Painted Rock until we were looking for wineries to visit near Penticton. What a fantastic location with gorgeous views over Skaha Lake while you taste the wines. We shared a charcuterie plate while we tasted, which made it more interesting.
The wines were gorgeous and will age well I think. We liked them so much we joined their red wine club.

Painted Rock was good tasting and yes we did by some wine. Two of our group did join the wine club. We sat out on their lovely deck and had a few bottles of wine. (We had our D D ) I bought a lovely bottle of white at A$47.00 and another member of our group bought two meat and cheese platters. That is the one thing that they could improve on. Five olives. Three small and very thin slices each of the beef and pork. And very thin slices of duck. You could spit through them all. Not a lot of cheese but there were also crackers on the plate. Honestly people. If you want to complement this fine wine at least fill the platter a little better than that . I just didn't see $20.00 worth of food on there.

I recently visited Painted Rock winery in Penticton, B.C. It was a quiet wet day, in October. There were two couples at the tasting bar, each with a representative. There were three in my party, and we stood there for at least 10 minutes waiting for someone to say hello. We left without ever having been greeted. Pity, I was very interested in the Painted Rock product, had plenty of cash and was looking forward to parting with it.
So, off we went, to the many other wonderful and friendly wineries in the area and came home with a brilliant selection of wines, just not from Painted Rock. I won't go there again.

Dear Cathy, Firstly let me apologize for not responding earlier, we are a young business and were not yet set up on Trip Advisor so I’ve just now learned of your post. I am very sorry that you did not have a wonderful experience at Painted Rock. I am not going to make excuses as I hold myself and my team to the highest standards. We had only opened our new facility in September and by the sounds of it we were not adequately staffed. That was my fault and I apologize for that. We are closed now until late spring but please except my invitation to return so we can redeem ourselves. If you contact me directly at johnskinnner@paintedrock.ca I would be happy to arrange a private tasting for you and your friends. I do appreciate the feedback as it will make us better and I look forward to proving that to you. Kind regards, John Skinner Proprietor
