Challenging hike with a decent view.
Sep. 2020
There is a small parking lot in front of the trailhead entrance. The hike itself is quite challenging, I would say more on the difficult side than moderate side, but it really depends on your fitness level. Certain areas are pretty steep and some sections are really muddy. I didn't stop much, only to take some photos and have a drink. When I reached the top, there were so many mosquitos so I stayed just a few minutes, and then started heading back down. I'm not the fittest person, but I managed to go up and down in 3 hrs 15 mins. The view itself wasn't really that spectacular, but the hike was an intense workout.

Great workout and pretty views

We missed the bus to the trail and ended up walking from Prince Rupert (I don't recommend this), but the trail was great when we got there. We only saw a couple of other people, and there are tons of berries growing on the side of the trail. The incline makes for a great workout. Be sure to bring bug spray if you are sensitive to mosquitos. We were able to catch the bus back to town, and it was very efficient.

Steep incline - good work out!

We decided to do the tall trees trail after another hike (maybe not a good idea if you aren't very experienced). Quite a moderate/difficult trail with steep inclines. Felt a lot longer than 5km, but probably due to my lack of experience. When we reached the top, it was such a shame we had a day full of fog and didnt get to see the views that everyone else has seen, but it was still lovely.

Loved hiking this trail. It is a good work out and does have a some steep inclines. The trail is well marked and easy to navigate. The view from the top is breath taking. Head past the first bench for another two minutes. It’s well worth it.

Amazing hike! At times it gets difficult, but mainly moderate hike with lots to see! Anita & Earl from Kelowna

I’m glad we chose this hiking trail, since we did not only get to see the views only. I specifically was thrilled with the plants, mushrooms and crystals along the way. Once you are at the top, make sure you keep on going after the first lookout. The real view is going to be just behind the trail...if you are adventurous, there is an unmaintaned trail, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Doesn’t look safe.

Awesome views from the top

Catch bus 60 from Prince Rupert & hop off at the Butze Rapids Trail stop. Cross the highway and turn left. Walk 2 minutes at you're at the start of the Tall Trees Hike.
There's a toilet at Butze Rapids, but I don't recall seeing one at Tall Trees... so plan ahead if required.
This is certainly not a crowded hike, but you'll probably see / meet half a dozen people on the trail.
This takes about 2 1/2 hours through superb forest scenery. Lots of interesting fungi, birds, lizards, rock formations. It isn't particularly steep, just a bit long, so it's suitable even for only average hikers.
The view from the top is awesome! You can see the Channel & about a dozen cute little islands that look like dark green patty cakes (cupcakes) with rounded tops crammed full of pine trees. Well worth some photos! There're a couple of benches up their, making the top an ideal place to sit, have a drink from your water bottle & admire the scenery.
The bus schedule is a bit lean, but you might well make friends on the trail & get a ride with other hikers back to Rupert.
