Well thank you Jeff , informative , knowledgeable and a nice gentleman ta boot !! traveled with friends and booked prior to leaving UK which is needed as fills up quiet quickly. booked both whale watching and bear watching and both with the incredible patient and ultimate guide Jeff, I am sure there are other guides but this gent really made the early morning bear watch a pleasure and the morning is the best trip to book. The scenery the wild life and the whole setting for this experience is second to none and if you visit one place on your bucket list Tofino should be on it swiftly followed by adventure tours Tofino , thanks you for all the amazing memories .
never seen so many sea otters and bears and the trip in the zodiac really gives you the sense of adventure in the wild feeling , enjoy future travelers

We booked this last minute and the team were very accommodating! Our guide worked extremely hard to try and find Orcas however thick fog made the conditions a little tricky therefore we couldn't find them on this occasion. He was very informative and told us loads about all the animals as well as sometimes being quiet to allow to appreciate the amazing wildlife!
We saw 4 huge Gray Whales (OC & Nelson were 2 of them), Sea Otters, Stellar & Californian Sealions, Harbour Seals as well as on the way back a Bald Eagle.
It was a fantastic experience to see these wild animals in their natural habitat - Thank you!

I had a great trip out with these guys for Black Bears - it was a very smooth trip in sheltered waters. We set off on an early morning tide, and soon found a mother bear with her cub. We loved watching them turning over rocks to find crabs at a close enough range for photos, but without disturbing them. We later found another 4 individual bears, and were also rewarded with a huge raft of Sea Otters (I hadn't expected to see them so it was a great surprise)
Jeff was a great guide and give us lots of information about the bears lives, and he had vast knowledge of everything else we saw too. I would definitely do this trip again if I was back in the area.

Amazing set of tours brilliantly curated by Jeff! We did the whale watching and bear watching over 2 days and Jeff showed us everything we could have asked for.
The zodiac ribs were great, allowing close up access and a lot of fun. Very smooth ride with a bit of minor choppiness on the whale watch.
We saw 3 grey whales, a gang of harbour seals, the most magnificent Steller sea lion bulls, plus sea otters and an eaglet to finish off. Day 2, early start at 7am, 5 black bears, sea otters, seals, and the parent bald eagle of the eaglet from day 1.
All accompanied with Jeff’s expert, informative and witty explanations, filled with appreciation of the natural world. His explanation about the breakdown in the natural cycle from the loss of sea otters last century was really interesting.
These are great tours and come highly recommended from Jeff’s Welsh ‘fan club’! We would do these tours again when we return. A lady on the whale tour had been 3 times this year already, which is worth 100 Trip Advisor reviews. My photos do not do it justice!

I couldn’t give this tour a better review. Having been fortunate enough to travel round a significant portion of the world, this experience (and Tofino in general) was up there with the best I’ve had. The weather we got was beautiful and the water was calm. We saw loads of sea lions, otters and seals, as well as one huge Grey whale which we saw for about 30 minutes coming up and down. Ron our guide was fantastic and a charming guy. Would thoroughly recommend this tour with this company and I would also recommend the zodiac vs the bigger boat (if you can cope with a couple of bumps). I genuinely couldn’t fault the experience, it was a true pleasure and we’re signed up to the bear tour tomorrow now as a result.

We really enjoyed the bear watching Zodiac tour with Jeff, saw 4 bears including a cub. Jeff also showed us lots of other animals like baldheaded eagles, sea otters, harbour seals and jellyfish on the tour. Jeff gave us lots of information about the animals and we really enjoyed the Zodiac ride. I would recommend the Zodiac, because we got closer to the animals than other tours. The weather was cloudy even little bit of rain at the end, because of the great and warm suits it wasn't a problem at all.

Amazing bear and whale watching trips, knowledgable about the wildlife and got us to the right places to see them. On two trips we saw Humpbacks, Black Bears with some cubs, Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Bald Eagles and possibly some others.

Great tour, almost 3 hours long and saw lots of wildlife including 3 whales, sea lions, seals. sea otters, bald eagles and more. We were lucky with the weather as it was clear blue sky, however it was a little breezy meaning there were some big waves out to sea as we went looking for whales. There was a pretty intense 20 mins of bouncing off large waves and my 13 and 9 year old both got scared at this point, but other than that, the tour guide was really knowledgeable and the scenery and wildlife stunning. Great tour!

We are planning to come over from England in June. Are we likely to see whales, and if so what species please?

Dear Richard,
we are very sorry for not replying to your question earlier but we have not seen it until now. What 328burkharde answered is right, Grey Whales are our most common sightings in Tofino. Chances for Orcas and Humpback Whales are only about 10% so not very high and we are unable to predict when they will show up. I hope this information was helpful!

Hi, how close can you see the bears eg do you need binoculars? Thanks!

The boat operators really do their best to find bears in the first place, and work together to share information. There is a restriction as to how close the boats are allowed to get to the bears. You can inquire with the tour operator about how close they are allowed to get just so you know. Having binoculars would be beneficial and enhance your experience. But you should be able to see the bears without them. Also, it is recommended that you have a good camera, rather than relying on your phone camera. If you don't have a good camera, there will likely be people on the tour who do. Ask people with good cameras if they wouldn't mind sharing their photos with you by email.

I understand there aren't any guarantees as we're hoping to see wild animals but wondering, generally speaking, is a morning or afternoon tour more likely to see the most wildlife? Thanks in advance for your time.
ATWildlifeTours
Tofino, Canada1 contribution
Dear BConn70, thank you very much for your interest in our wildlife tours.
The best and usually only time of the day to see bears is during low tide which is when the bears come down to the shore to find seafood underneath the rocks. All our bear watch tours are scheduled during low tide which shifts every day by about an hour. Last year we saw bears on all of our tours wether we went in the morning, afternoon or evening.
For the whales there is no better time of the day because chances are the same trough-out the day. Our most common whale sightings are the gray whales which are feeding close to our shore and can be seen throughout the summer month. Orca whales show up unexpected throughout the year and we get lucky to see them only a few times a month as they are transients who feed on mammals and travel to hunt huge distances. Humpbacks feed far out in the ocean and we will get to watch them also only a few times a month unless its a good season and we get to see them more often.
We hope this information was helpful and we hope to see you soon.
Kind regards
Alexandra

What services should one be expecting during winters?
coreyz730

I would call or email but I dont think they do whale watching in the winter. The ocean is very rough with lots of storms and the water just is too rough (probably) to go in a zodiac to watch whales. I imagine the season is from April until Sep/Oct.
