Beautiful beach with close access from parking lot. Endless sandy beach to walk and separate rocky areas with tidal pools too. Clean washrooms at trail entrance. People of all ages enjoying the outdoors.

Chesterman Beach features mikes of golden sand. The Pacific Ocean is chilly with wetsuit-clad surfers if all ages. We went in June 2022 for sunset viewing after dinner before the cougars and wolves. We were there until about 10:00 because the sunset was around 9:00. We actually encountered two cougars outside our in-town Tofino Airbnb upon our return.

A beautiful beach with tide pools to explore which we really enjoyed. A lot of people cycling on the beach too as it's nice and firm. The only let down is that you have to pay for the parking and we really really struggled to find anywhere to park an RV. It was $12.25 to park for the day so not the end of the world but not great either.

Beautiful beach - unfortunately was cold and cloudy when we were there. Need to pay for parking at this beach.

It’s really nice place to go vacation. The Legislation building is really beautiful. But hard garden is nice also. If we have time we’re going to Torino but need more day to stay. Malahat Skywalk are awesome too. Nice to spend vacation.

Really nice beach...more sandy than others, lovely crescent, great for strolling, plenty of room to spread out and hang or to enjoy the surf.

we walked all over the beach at low tide and saw surfers, dog walkers, wind surfers and wanderers like ourselves, out enjoying the wild wind and gorgeous west coast scenery

Truly a relaxing and peaceful beach especially when it’s empty. It was a cold September day that we went and I loved just listening to the beach. There were some surfers in the water in the distance and it’s fun to watch them.

Hello,
I read your review which was really helpful.
I want to book a weeks holida in August y I with Tofino as our base. It looks stunning. My one concern is the danger of the ocean there for my kids (9yrs old). They love swimming and the sea.
You made Chesterman beach sound a good place for kids. Did you feel safe or have concerns about rip tides etc?!
Would love some advice if you have time! It’s only me that’ll be worrying....

Apologies I missed your question . As for riptides, signs are posted warning of both riptides & cold water, recommending wetsuits for water activities. From what we observed, Chesterman beach appeared safe at low tides for beach walks & and ankle wading. We also saw families with kids enjoying picnics and playing on the beach. We didn’t swim nor have kiddos with us the time. As for swimming, I think Tin Wis beach - open to public - but by the Best Western Hotel property would be the most protected spot we found for kids to play. Have a great holiday!!

I am interest in this spot for a possible vacation. We are looking to check out some tide pools and also wanted to do some whale watching. I was wondering if you can do both of those things here and if there are unique vacations rental like cabins and treehouses near by?
Thank you!

Hi...yep...you can all of that and more on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Both Tofino and Ucluelet offer many many opportunities. Bear in mind that Tofino is crazy busy so doing your research for reservations for accommodations and whale watching is a must. And don't be shocked by prices. The cost of vacationing is a home or hotel is pretty steep.

Yes. It's a great place to take the dogs. They can run for hours and hours.

Any rip tides on Chesterton? Is it safe for kids to swim?

as long as you pay close attention to your children in the waves, they should be fine, the tides & currents are strong for novices, so if they aren't average swimmers... swim close to them, & I would recommend not letting them venture out by themselves out of your swimming compacity!!

Last week of July and the first week of August....Best time to see the Tofino end of the peninsula. Ucluelet at the southern end is known for the fog and the residents even call it Fogust. The Chesterman Beach end, which is the northern end of the peninsula, just south of Tofino is great - especially last week of July and first week of August. There are many opportunities to have guided fishing trips out of Tofino, plus the Grey Whale watching tours. Best place to stay, if you reserve soon, the Pacific Sands Resort on Cox Bay....or Long Beach Lodge...The Wichaninnish Inn is fine by very expensive. Keep in mind that this whole peninsula (25 miles in length) from Tofino to Ucluelet has one of the highest occupancy rates year round....so reserve early or you will be out of luck.
