Address
Neighbourhood: Granville Street
Granville Street spans many, multiple city blocks and has become so fastidiously known for its nightclubs and watering holes that it's fondly nicknamed the city's 'Entertainment District.' Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular and lively, with young revelers taking to the streets in droves and keeping the party going until late. Granville Street, being mostly open to pedestrian-only traffic, has a healthy social life along its main thoroughfares, even outside of its cafes and pubs, spilling onto the sidewalks. The locals are chatty, the shops at its expansive Pacific Centre Mall are trendy, and the whole area seems to be on a sugar rush: in a good way. Exuberance and camaraderie classify this neighbourhood.

I am a big fan of Bill Reid artwork. So this was a dream come true for me. It not only featured some his paintings but also his wood carvings and jewelry. The gallery was not crowded so you can leisurely walk through and take your time. When you go make sure you look up at the ceiling so you can see everything. there is a second floor and it has a gallery that would allow you to get a better look at some of the wood cavrings.

This is a unique gallery to learn more about First Nations art and culture, which is cool. It is quite small, so you don't need to spend too much time here. Many of the sculptures and totems are especially impressive.

Although the place is called a gallery, it's really a small museum dedicated to the works of a major indigenous artist. The art is diverse (jewelry to large sculpture), beautiful, and nicely displayed and explained. A fine place to visit and learn. The space also shows the work of other indigenous artists inspired by Bill Reid.

(A tip: The gallery isn't visible from the street; you think you've arrived at the designated address, but then you need to go up some steps.)

I’ve wanted to come here for years and finally had the chance. If you aren’t blown away by the energy, creativity and skill I’m not really sure what to say. If you don’t know much about Bill Reid, this is a great place to start. Other artists’ work is featured as well and I appreciated seeing the beadwork pieces, which I’m always in awe of. Take a moment to go through the gift shop, one of the few places I’ve seen outside Haida Gwaii where you can purchase authentic argillite pieces.

This gallery is easy to miss as it is off a small plaza above street level. To have missed it would have been a great shame. As well as the man himself, there are quality exhibits from other north West Canada First Nation artists. The gift shop has a wide range of quality items for sale, most of which are made by First Nation artists.

Excellent Gallery and Gift Shop. I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit of First Nation designer and artist, Sho Sho Esquiro. Her designs are powerful and must be seen in person! The Bill Reid Foundation pieces are excellent as well.

If you're looking for sprawling halls, this isn't the gallery for you. But the quality and cohesive story of this gallery offers a deep look into Bill Reid's work and inspiration.

A few video screens and pieces were out of commission while were were there, which is disappointing in a gallery of this size, but things happen. We still loved the visit, and after found ourselves catching First Nation techniques and style all over Vancouver.

Before your visit understand that this is a very small gallery, though it is interesting and worth a visit. It primarily features the work of Bill Reid and some of the sculpture and Jewelry is interesting. The general theme by Reid and others exhibited revolves around Indigenous Art. The gift shop is also worth a visit. Excellent prices for what they offer.

Some good exhibits in a small gallery.
The prominent ones are : Raven, the Totem Pole, and the Miniature tea service. Good gift shop next door has good items, including jewelry designed by Bill Reid.
In downtown Vancouver. For lunch, go to a sushi restaurant called Rua 69, nearby-- that is if you like sushi !

Hands down the best collection of Haida artist Bill Reid's work all on one place. Affordable walk down BC's aboriginal history lane. Great gift shop go stop at on your way out with affordable pieces by Haida inspired artists.
