The area
Neighbourhood: Stanley Park
Stanley Park is Vancouver's premier spot to get up close and personal with nature and animals. The grassy expanse offers outdoor teahouses and stunning views, beachfront hideaways and splash parks. It is a typical getaway spot for friends and families, especially as it is home to Vancouver's aquarium, and some of its best equestrian outlets.

Walking around Lost Lagoon certainly doesn't feel like you are in the middle of Vancouver. Only the of the tall buildings on the west side tell otherwise. It is a very peaceful walk along the path bordering the lagoon. I'm glad that we were able to visit here twice during our trip to Vancouver.

I just finished an hour walk around the east side of Stanley Park. It was like rush hour: walkers, runners, cyclists, cars, horse-drawn contraptions. Cross the causeway, and suddenly silence. Here, we have trails, water, trees, just like Stanley Park. So, if you would like a little peace and quiet with your walk, maybe try here.

I went on British Columbia Day and thought it would be very busy. In the late morning/early afternoon there were walkers, joggers, and bicyclists (I believe they have to walk bikes on the trail compared to the Seawall) I enjoyed seeing the heron, ducklings and the mama duck, a baby raccoon, and plenty of geese. It was definitely more quiet than the Seawall and slower paced compared to the busy Seawall on holiday.
I wish Nature House would be opened. It has a beautiful mural on the outside of it!

A small lagoon at the start of Stanley Park. It is very tranquil just being able to cycle round on the nature trail.

Lost Lagoon, named after a poem by Pauline Johnson. The lagoon used to be connected to the ocean through a canal and completely empty during low tide.
It was so quiet and serene after all the people and noise of Stanley Park. It is a little Oasis.

Most visitors who walk into Stanley Park gravitate towards the right to the Vancouver Aquarium and the totem poles. But I was always curious about that pond, the Lost Lagoon, on the left of the entrance. So I took a leisurely walk around the pond on this trip, and it did not disappoint! A remarkable place that is home to many birds. One lady that I saw on the path was gathering raspberries! I completed my walk within 30 minutes. The path is easy to walk, without any elevation gain. There are benches along the way where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. It's someplace that I would visit again on my next trip.

It's amazing this nature is just steps from downtown in a city of this size. The birds were so happy to be splashing and playing, a sure sign spring is here. It's an easy walk with lots of benches to stop and take in the wildlife and peace.

Lost Lagoon is an excellent introduction to Stanley Park. From Sea Wall (where the house on stilts is) the entire walk, a leisurely stroll, including taking in the sights and some pictures is about an hours walk around the lagoon. The lagoon has all sorts of wonderful ducks, racoons and herons to look for, is scenic, great for everyone, including kids and dogs (on a leash).

I was walking west from the totem pole/yacht club area of Stanley Park which was crowded with cyclists, walkers, and photographers, when all of a sudden I was at peace - I had crossed the causeway and was at Lost Lagoon!
