My husband and I had wanted to go on a kayaking trip for two years, we were below average/ recreational kayakers with overall good fitness level.
It took us two days to feel confident in the ocean, Silke was a great instructor for us, she is calm competent and knowledgable, We both Kayak with confidence now.

This trip turned to be one of the best active trips we had ever done.
Beauty of Broken group Islands is obvious and not what I focus on here.

Silke is the highlight of our trip.
She is knowledgable, a kind human being, a strong leader and passionate for what she does and the nature of our BC and the history of indigenous people.

We came out of this trip rested, relaxed and happy because of what BC has to offer, and better people because of heart and soul that Silke offers.
The food is fabulous, Silke cooks with love, guides with love and lives with love.

Thank you for showings us to Broken group Islands and sharing the history of indigenous people with compassion and care.
We will be back for another adventure soon!!

With our family a morning sailed through the inlet of Ucluelet under the professional guidance of Silke. We received a proper safety instruction and tips on the technique of kayak sailing. Then the water on what was a much nicer experience than we thought. You see and experience nature from a different perspective. We got a lot of information about life in and around the water. Unfortunately no bears seen, but bald eagles, seals, beautiful starfish, deer, etc.
It was a fantastic experience and we laughed a lot with the always smiling Guide Silke. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much for joining us on a day trip. It was a beautiful day spent with your family. I love that the morning fog lifted and we were able to see so much of the beautiful area. Thank you for joining us and leaving a review! It means a lot to us!

Had a great time on 4 day trip around Broken Islands group.

The trip was very well organized, and the food was just phenomenal. I am used to eating ramen and instant foods on my trips, so real meals prepared with love and care were amazing.

The guide Silke was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive.

We saw a lot of sea life, water birds, eagles, giant trees, waves, pristine beaches, and signs of traditional native living and history. I would highly recommend this tour and the tour company.

Absolutely a once in a lifetime experience. The scenery, locations and wildlife were amazing, but the guide really made the trip. I felt safe, inspired, challenged and thrilled the entire time. Silke is one of a kind, and in 30 years of adventure travel this is the best trip I've ever been on. I'm heading back out with Wild Root again this year and I can't be more excited.

What could I possibly say that would encapsulate my experience kayaking around the Broken Islands. The vast ocean, the secret little beaches, along with the birds, animals, and sea life populating them. The feeling of shoving off the beach in the morning not knowing what you'll see that day. The luxurious meals. Silke's masterful guidance of this trip blew my expectations out of the water.

Kayaking in the Broughton Archipelago was our 3rd trip with Wild Root Journeys.
It can hardly get any better. The company guides with excellent knowledge about the natural world and the respect for the indigenous population and culture. The equipment is top notch, the food was delicious, the group was harmonious and supportive. The weather was on the cool side in early June, and I learned that it helps to keep socks on in my water shoes to keep warmth in my feet. The water is so clear and offers this beautiful view into the underwater world. Different wild life showed up every day . The changing weather with low clouds and silhouettes of Islands, with raindrops hitting the flat ocean surface, to brilliant colours and amazing sunsets, every day was special. Apparently I have to experience God's Pocket to see more of the extraordinary marine wildlife next. I hope I can! Definitely recommend this company, Thanks Silke for the experience!

Silke and Kailey were wonderful guides making for a thoughtful and uplifting trip. We paddled the Broken Group over 4 days and enjoyed calm water, moments of reflection, and a handful of wildlife sightings. I had never been sea kayaking or kayak camping before and they handled the logistics and teaching to make sure everyone stayed safe, including packing sufficient drinking water and food for the whole group and ensuring we had shelter in a significant but thankfully brief rainstorm. They often referenced First Nations people and mentioned that they have control over these waters and have welcomed the return of recreational kayaking after the pandemic. We saw numerous oysters, crabs, snails (including giant moon snail!), and caught glimpses of humpback whales, a seal, and a black bear. Meals were delicious and healthy and they readily accommodated me as a pescatarian. Do fill out the pre-trip questionnaire which will come by email so that they can plan appropriately. They were happy to teach me some basics about navigation and planning and I felt comfortable on other sea kayak rentals and classes later in my trip.

Thanks for sharing your experience. The Broken Group Islands are a part of the Tseshaht territory and we are honored to be able to share this very special part of the world with folks. Thanks for the prompt on filling out the pre trip form, this is a go to for us to help support participants with dietary and food preferences, knowing what physical limitations or past injuries may need extra attention as well as other information that gives us insight to make the experience as high quality as possible. Cheers.

My daughter and I joined the Wild Root Journeys kayaking trip in the Broken Group Islands from July 9 to 12th. As Barb noted in another review Silke and Bill were great in making us all feel cared for and safe and yes, the food was great. We live in BC and I have kayaked a fair amount in the southern gulf islands. That said, I was impressed by the knowledge of both guides and my kayaking paddle technique has definitely improved with their advise. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes kayaking and wants to explore the beautiful rainforest eco system of the Broken Island with thoughtful, nature oriented guides. Thank you Silke.

I want to express my deep gratitude to Silke, Kailey and Wild Root Journeys for the incredible experiences I have had on both the Broughton Archipelago and the Nuchalitz Islands kayaking trips. Wild Root Journey is a gem of a company. Previous reviews about the food, superb equipment and lessons are all true. However, I want to comment on what I experienced, such as the day we floated down the inlet with our eyes closed, listening to the sounds of the birds, or the joy and awe of seeing whales in the distance or the porpoises splashing, playing and racing in the water close to our camp one night. These are the experiences that I think about many times. Silke knows what is important and tries to give every member of the group an adventure that is like no other.
