After a busy day playing tourist and walking several kilometres, it was very relaxing to sit back in a small boat and be entertained and informed by Irwin as we floated around the waters of Vancouver! A very pleasant way to finish off pour first day in Vancouver! Thank you Irwin!

Was watching Pacific Ferries's boat trying to "dock" at Granville Island yesterday. There was no space to dock as there was a classic wooden boat show going on. The captain was told directly that he was not supposed to dock at the public dock's but he said 'i'm going to dock anyways'. What he was doing was trying to put the stern end of his 40ft plus boat on the tip of the finger of the dock which is only 6ft wide. In trying to do so, he drove very dangerously, almost hitting the round barbecue boat, the docked classic boats and Aquabus ferries. The reason he was doing this was because he was trying to drop a family off. It was tense, he was yelling at the family to get off quickly and 200 people were watching. He did not even wait for an opening to move in, he just moved in with big wakes and close calls. We were having lunch later and saw that he trie to do this again at the docks. Didn't even think to take a video of this whole activity. Amazing. Thoroughly unprofessional and down right dangerous. I would stay away.

We get there at 845am for our 9am departure like our reservation says and the Captain mumbles about needing gas and leaves on the boat saying 15-20 minutes and he'll be back. It wasn't until another employee got there at about 9:30 did he tell us the trip isn't until 10am. They apparently changed the times and didn't call anyone who had made the earlier reservations times to inform us of the change. A little off putting to stand on a dock for over an hour but ok since there were only 18ish people scheduled there was plenty of room to stretch out on the boat. We get a clumsy safety brief and take off. The ride was rough! I understand the weather was bad as we were expecting rain, but the captains were pushing the throttle hard. They were searching for the other whale watchers using an app on their smart phone, not the whales themselves. Captain even stopped to ask another boat if they’d seen the other whale watchers or where they had gone. The captain at some point made the comment that they must all be down towards the USA. But he didn’t take us down there instead we went up around Bowen Island area. After hours of rough riding we didn’t find any whales (or whale watchers since that is what we were looking for) so the captain took us to see some sealions and we ran across some seals as well. The ride back to the docks was even worse than the ride out! Most people looked green around the gills and we got no breaks to let our stomachs calm down. It was about 6 hours round trip and I really wished I’d spent the extra $300 or so (on three tickets) and gone with a different company! We stopped into 2 other companies offices directly after and they had found whales on their morning trips because they tracked the whales! Even had big maps up with pins and info on which types they’d seen where and common sightings, which were all down around the lower international borders. The last thing I would like everyone to know is that the “crew” had no consideration for the environment, they were throwing trash out of the boat ALL DAY and let their piles of napkins be taken away by the wind. When we stopped to see the sea lions the captain got the boat really close to the floating structure they were on, so everyone could take pictures, the water was rough, and the boat knocked into the structure sending all the sea lions off the sides. He obviously has no care of human impact on wildlife.

We booked our tour in May 2018 and received a confirmation email. We were so excited for our boat trip and we planned our Vancouver holiday around this key date. A few days prior to our trip (scheduled for Aug 9th) and once we had arrived in Vancouver - we tried unsuccessfully to phone the company to confirm the address for the departing dock. We literally could not speak to anyone or find the exact dock address anywhere. Then, 21 hours prior to our trip we received an email from the company cancelling our entire day trip due to "dock not being available". Of course we can't actually phone anyone to discuss this as no-one ever answers the phone! I would never use this company again as in our experience they have been completely unreliable and unprofessional. We are bitterly disappointed and at the time of writing we are awaiting confirmation that we will receive a full refund for $555 Canadian.

Not only it took us a while to finally get this trip confirmed, I had to call several times and a different number than the one provided by TripAdvisor which pointed to a voice mail all the time, to in the end get on a boat with my 2 kids that were looking forward to this trip so much. The cruise started and right after the first acceleration, smoke and horrible smell came to us right after a strange noise. The boat slowed down and made a U turn. We finally had someone telling us that unfortunately a motor broke so we had to cancel the trip. I asked if they had another boat, they said “No! Ask for a refund or reschedule please….” So a company like Pacific Ferries do not have another boat in case one gets damaged .. scary… but seeing the shape of the boats anyway you are not surprised.. when we got back to the dock, nobody from the company was there… When you have a limited amount of time I a city, travelling from Europe you don’t not really cope with a “please reschedule”. I do not know if the tour is good or not, I know you should avoid Pacific ferries. ..
