About
Vancouver DeTours Vancouver DeTours is a new project from the acclaimed Tour Guys collective of walking tour guides. Take a deep dive into the multilayered history and spaces of the city by going off-course from the standard paths and stories. A ‘detour’ is an indirect route or digression, but to DeTour is also to un-know and reimagine Vancouver in critical new ways.

Whether you are from out or town or local, you will certainly get a very satisfying experience. Ally (owner & main guide) is passionate and knowledgeable as he shares his insights and stories while providing the tour. We enjoyed our first tour so much that we returned for another. It was easy to hear Ally on the tour as his microphone was amplified effectively to a crowd of 20+. We would certainly return for a different tour offered by DeTours. Thanks Ally for the memorable stories of our history.

We had such a great time walking around downtown and the waterfront! Ali was very informative, fun and interesting. We learned a lot about the city, Ali's story telling was perfect! We are four friends from Europe (France, Germany and Sweden), in Vancouver for one day after a ski trip in BC. We all enjoyed the tour a lot, we highly recommend it. Walking tours with locals are really the best way to discover a city. Thanks Ali and Tour Guys!!

We did two tours with Vancouver DeTours as part of the Vancouver Mural Festival. Both were excellent! While the focus was the mural art that is gaining ground in the city and the artists that created them, each tour guide was also fantastic at weaving art, history, and culture of the area into the stories they told. It is these deep dives into neighbourhoods that I love about walking tours. Thanks to Ali and Pete for teaching us more about the city we love.

Mural Fest showed parts of Vancouver which were intriguing, with an excellent guide showing the murals around Main Street and West 3rd-11th. Excellent variety and style and my favorites are the mural of Mexican people, also dinosaurs in vivid colours. We appreciate the guide's knowledge and ability to answer questions.

I am a senior born and raised in Vancouver and still learned so much about my city touring Mount Pleasant during mural Fest with Ali as our guide. It was an interesting journey through the art, history and urban tensions of an area that has been home to so many diverse groups and is once again marked with change. DeTours takes you on a journey that is fun, interesting, sometimes provocative, always worthwhile. Highly recommended if you are a born Vancouverite or a curious visitor.

Fabulous a highlight of our time in Vancouver. Alisdair was knowledgable and fun and we learned so much about the city, including the good and bad bits about its history.

The tour was the right length (approx 2 hours) and Alisdair was very personable and chatty with everyone. Most of us returned the second day to take another tour as we learned so much

The murals tour was a treat! Pete was a knowledgeable and motivated guide. He introduced us to a wide variety of murals, but it never felt rushed, there was enough time to appreciate each artwork individually. I also enjoyed getting to know a different part of Vancouver, away from the touristy and business areas.

Best heritage walking tour I've been on in Vancouver! I went on the Vancouver DeTours 'Heritage and Megaprojects' themed walking tour, led by Alasdair. We spent almost three hours on an in-depth exploration of downtown's big 'heritage' building projects including The Post (the old Post Office on Georgia), the upcoming 'The Bay' project, the proposed changes to the Granville Theatre District and an examination of the Court House, Art Gallery, Hotel Vancouver and old Vancouver Public Library developments. A fascinating review of the historic context of these buildings, new and old approaches to density transfer, evolving City Hall views on heritage and density. The attendees were also very knowledgeable and a real contribution to the overall discussion. Highly recommended!

I took a tour with Vancouver DeTours for the 2022 Vancouver Mural Fest's Winter Festival - around "downtown" - which was absolutely fantastic! Since it was raining, I was able to take the tour with just myself and the guide, making for an even more meaningful experience. My guide was Pete, who was incredibly knowledgeable and kind.

I look forward to taking another tour (or two) with DeTours for Summer VMF!!

We did the walking tour with Lisle as our guide. I'm from Vancouver and my husband is from Florida. We had a great tour, good pace, she took enough time to make sure we were all together, 15 of us! I can't believe how much the city has changed and how much I've missed by not walking around! She was personable, knowledgeable, knew about so many different things, from architecture to history to culture! We all loved her and listened intently as we didn't want to miss a word. We went from a brief history of Vancouver to the 2010 Olympics to today! Fun, easy to understand and interesting, we couldn't have asked for more for a full 2-hour tour. It went so fast!
