6 months ago I drove over to MEC to purchase a very popular pull on boot (in a very common size)..sold out. Two weeks ago needed to purchase a fairly high end common item, got wise now...checked on the website and they had one left so off I go on a drive. Got to the store and was told none... More

Wasted 30 minutes feeling totally invisible in a fruitless attempt to acquire a water bottle before walking out in disgust. Store entry was first issue - not easy to locate. Help from staff non existent. Had one fellow next to where I was standing waiting my turn patiently while he discussed a product with another customer at great length. He... More

A bit like Cabelas for real people. There's no guns (I kinda like guns 😕). There's no fishin' stuff (I LOVE fishin' 😕😕) but there's pretty much everything else. It's Canada's wonderland, winter and summer. Kayaks, canoes, pedal bikes of EVERY description, EVERYTHING and more you could ever want to go backcountry. Climbing stuff, hiking stuff, maps, tucker for the... More

Expertise - if you need specialized equipment for various disciplines : biking, hiking, camping, running, etc., Excellence - if you need high quality product. Guaranteed? MEC is the shopping venue for you. The store is well laid out, by discipline; each department is staffed with a number of knowledgeable and helpful sales associates; the quality of product is top brand... More

Cannot find the Victoria store listed. It's a great place to find awesome gear and friendly staff. We have been members of MEC for decades. I love that they stand behind their products. Latest visit was to look at wallets and gear for a trip overseas. They have a great selection of some excellent products. So glad we have them... More

Quite a big store with a ok selection of gear and clothes. But nothing more than that really. And that makes it a "2" instead of "1". The guys working there was unfortunately not so service minded or even specially friendly. The whole experience from testing to buying was bad. I was really close to just leave and not buying... It's hard not to compare it with REI, its closest US counterpart. At REI (particularly at the Seattle flagship store), you can choose from a huge selection of gear, plus an entire floor devoted just to clothing. You can even get something to eat or drink, or try out climbing gear on the indoor climbing wall. MEC is the downsized,... More

MEC used to be awesome. Not so much anymore if you are size 12 or 14. Very little stock in store. Seems everything is always 'sold out'. However you can get it online so that doesn't make sense. Technical equipment, packs and, if they have your size, shoes/boots are always good at MEC however.

Me and my wife just moved to vancouver, and its her first time to experience the north american winter. According to her she was never warm until she got the necessary gear from MEC. For me i enjoyed the variety of the gear, especially since i go camping a lot. They should make a jacket with a tie in fleece... More

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighbourhood Profile
Shaughnessy
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
