Entertaining evening hearing stories about the Prohibition movement from 1917-1921 that banned alcohol in the hopes of preserving the moral fibre of society. A messy social experiment that resulted in bootlegging, bribes, and corruption at all levels of government. Learning about "Blind Pigs" and alleys as "view corridors into the past" kept us all enthralled... Will Woods is a talented... More

We walked around central gas town area Vancouver and heard some of the dark and nefarious past of Vancouver, what was most shocking in how little people change in over a hundred years, our guide, Nevada, was excellent, we interrupted her a lot with what we thought were jokes, I hope they were, and she kept right on track and... We spent an evening in Vancouver before going skiing in Whistler, and this was the perfect way to get to know the city. Since I typically love walking tours when traveling to new places, my family actually surprised me by booking the Prohibition City walking tour with Will. We were there in January, so I was originally thinking we wouldn't... More

Thank you for your review Chel! I had a great time with you all on our adventure through Vancouver's prohibition past. And I appreciate your comments about my enthusiasm for leading walking tours - I feel very lucky to have chosen this as my work. Frankly it's walking and talking Vancouver history with folks like yourselves that make this work... More

We were enjoying a weekend in Vancouver with relatives and thought this would be an interesting walking tour. We were not disappointed, even with a bit of rain, this was a great tour. The history that enveloped us while walking past all these historic buildings down by the waterfront was tangible. The only negative item was that we didn't enter... More

Hi Mary-Ann and thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your Prohibition City walking tour despite the rain and the darkness! Appreciate your comment on seeing inside buildings on the tour. This is something we're working on this year in fact. Hope to see you again on one of our walking tours before long. All the best, Will. More

We had a single evening in Vancouver to spend while on our way to Whistler and I'm happy we decided to go on this walking tour. It was outside of their normal season and Will went above and beyond for us. We got to see some amazing sites while learning about the history of the city and the role prohibition... More

I had the best time with you and your family on our private Prohibition City walking tour! And I was honoured that you chose Forbidden Vancouver for your only night in the city. You picked a great year to visit Whistler too - so much snow! I hope your stay there was one to remember. All the best, Will. More

This is a tough tour to review because on one hand, the people who work for the company are SO nice and helpful I would never want to poo-poo what they are doing, but for travelers like me I feel like you need to know what you are getting into. This tour is very theatrical and very silly. It would... More

Hi Kathryn, I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your walking tour with us. From your description it sounds like you came on the Lost Souls of Gastown? We try to make it clear on our website that the experience is a Gothic Theatre Adventure, and certainly not a conventional walking tour. It sounds like you had a different expectation... More

We tried this out as something different to do with friends. We did the "Lost Souls of Gastown" tour. We are locals and still enjoyed it although I think it's geared towards tourists somewhat. The actor who hosted us (Nevada) was in character right from the beginning - she did an amazing job the whole way through - even sang... More

Thanks for your review Elise. Sounds like you enjoyed the Lost Souls of Gastown, although I wish it had been a 5 star experience for you - that's what we strive for, for all our guests. Regarding the landmarks visited, the experience does visit many of Gastown's most historic buildings and places (Maple Tree Sq, the Steam Clock, Gassy Jack's... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
