Stanley Park is Vancouver's premier spot to get up close and personal with nature and animals. The grassy expanse offers outdoor teahouses and stunning views, beachfront hideaways and splash parks. It is a typical getaway spot for friends and families, especially as it is home to Vancouver's aquarium, and some of its best equestrian outlets.

What a fantastic find this was, slightly off the beaten track on the hidden lake next to Stanley Park and close to the rose gardens. Fantastic volunteers told us so much about the local wildlife and were extremely passionate, knowledgeable and welcoming. We saw bald eagles flying above and baby swallows about to fledge. We were also told that if you visit at dawn or dusk you will almost always see beavers - wow! It is astonishing to think of beavers living in the city centre! Amazing! Well worth checking out! Top tip: if you enjoy your visit, consider making a small donation to keep this fab charity going!

Just happened on this place while walking around Lost Lagoon. Unless you are on the trail, it is very difficult to spot, nor is it well signed from above.
In any event, even though it was closed when I came by, the signs in the windows and what can be seen through the windows create an interest in knowing more.
I plan to drop by again on the weekend when they are open and see what else there is to learn.

I hired a bike and cycled around the Seawall and came across this nice single storey facility that faces a lake. It has exhibits about nature. Kids go there to learn about the beauty and precious nature.

Thank you for the post James!
We also have programs for adults ;)
One of my favourite workshops is the bitters making workshop where we create our own cocktail bitters with ingredients make from plant that grow in Stanley Park!
Hope to see you at some of these adult programs, too!

What an amazing view and scenic point to go for a walk in the Fall if you are in Vancouver!
The colour of leaves around and in #stanleypark is just a great sign of the season arrival of short and gorgeous autumn in #vancouver
You gotta be here!

I am thrilled that you enjoyed the Park. Stanley Park Ecology Society offers regular nature walks if you would like to learn about the beautiful ecology you enjoyed. Hope to see you on one of them!

A nature education centre along the Stanley Park trail. It's worth a visit. They do a lot of conservation work and community education, such as preserving the habitat of bats in the urban setting. :)

Regarding the Lost Lagoon area itself:
This is one of my regular spots as a local where there is so much going on here with all the variety of urban wildlife. You are usually likely to see the raccoons, sometimes a mother one with babies as well as herons as regulars themselves.
The Nature House is a small building right beside the park paths by a dock and is kind of hidden underneath the viewing area that is by the sidewalks. It is open til 4pm and hosts activities and learning displays for children as well as adults, in addition to some souvenirs. Not only is it open to public, but it hosts volunteer projects to help support the care and upkeep of the park including Beaver Lake such as removal of non-native plants and keeping an eye on the birds. If you can, drop by for a peek and if you really love the park, please donate to keep it all going so it can stay this way long-term :)

We visited Lost Lagoon as the start of a bicycle tour of Stanley park. It is great to see the swans and the serenity of the lake. A small wonder this area could be preserved in a city so keen to develop.

I've been to Stanley park numerous times. However , I never knew about its hidden gem, Lost Lagoon. Visited it twice and enjoyed the short walk, unity with nature and tranquility . Raccoons , swans, Blue heron, geese and ducks, all of them were friendly and showed no fear seeing people.
You cannot bike in that area, only walk, so it is very quiet there.

Lost Lagoon is found by many tourists each year and therefore it should not be called Lost Lagoon, but Swan Lagoon or Found Swan Lagoon, or Tchaikovsky Lagoon because it evokes the great moments of Swan Lake, the ballet.
