Neighbourhood: West Point Grey
West Point Grey is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, especially known for its easygoing and admired beachfronts. Locals crowd the Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach, especially in the summer, where a sprawling view of the English Bay awaits. The central village is an oasis of sovereign shops, many of them in local operation for years. The neighbourhood has a more personal feeling to it, and can be a wonderful and much-needed break from the bustle of big-city life, being a little haven of peace and quiet with an almost village temperament in the heart of Vancouver.

We went and saw the production of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol. The theatre is situated near the entrance of Jericho Park. The venue is small with a cosy lobby. The actual theatre space is excellent. You can purchase drinks at the bar. The seats were comfortable for the two hour show.

The show we saw was wonderful. A great story that looks at how Jacob Marley could earn his redemption from eternal damnation.

We got to the theatre by the UBC bus and it is a short walk to the venue. If there is a show on at the theatre it is well worth attending.

Despite growing up in Vancouver and being married to a former actor, I'd never attended an event at the Jericho Arts Centre until the presentation of Harold Pinter's Betrayal by the Ensemble Theatre. The production was done in the round which allowed for four short rows of comfortable seats on each of the four sides of the stage. This was perfect for this intimate, subtle, dialogue heavy play that moves back and forth in time between a few settings. The long foyer with a few stuffed chairs, a small bar and room for art was also comfortable but as with the seats needs one to be quick on the draw to get a perch.

We went there for a fighting chance product in of cats. This is our second time going to one of their productions. If you get a chance support them. Amazing. This location is small and so you really feel part of the play. Get there early. It fills up.

This venue (JAC) was ideal for a summer festival of three plays. The multi-purpose JAC can accommodate a variety of set ups -- proscenium, in the round, thrust and so on -- for an audience of up to 134. Seats are comfortable, the space intimate, the ambience casual. Ensemble Theatre chose three thoughtful plays to mount in July and August, belying the notion of light summer fare. Each production rates five stars!
