The beauty and tranquility we experienced on this smallish memorial garden was amazing! If you are going to the UBC Botanical Garden or Museum of Anthropology, it is definitely worth incorporating the Nitobe Memorial Garden into your visit.

The garden is very beautiful and a wonderful example of Japanese garden design. It is a long way from the city meaning a $35 taxi or the B99 bus and about 35 mins plus 15 min walk. The garden is good but not really worth...More

Considered as 1 of the 5 nicest Zen garden in the world, I was stunned by its beauty, serenity. Only 3 or 4 individuals were visiting that afternoon. A must see when you go next door to the MOA.

The garden is very small but it is peaceful, perfectly designed and literally you would feel as if u were in Japan. You will need no longer than 40 minutes, but with a good book it will be great to stay longer

Having travelled extensively through Japan, I can tell you that this is as authentic a Japanese garden as I've ever seen. The visit would be short if all you did was to follow the path per the instructions handed out at the entrance. However, to...More

This Japanese garden is beautifully maintained. It is not very big. You can easily walk through it in 10 minutes, but I recommend taking your time to slow down and really appreciate its many features and subtlety of design.

Early spring is the time to visit Nitobe Gardens at UBC. This classical Japanese garden is filled with fragrant cherry blossoms in full bloom in February and March, their sweet fragrance wafting through the garden. Walk along the pathways around the pond and admire the...More

The garden is fairly small (only a few acres), but walking around in it is beautifully serene and peaceful. Fantastic Japanese garden and definitely somewhere where you'd want to spend some time. You can see everything in about 15 minutes but if you have the...More

A beautiful Zen Garden which tells the life of Dr. Nitobe, from earliest childhood to his honorable profession, added to and maintained by devoted friends. This is one of the most beautiful, subtle and pristine Zen Gardens we have ever seen. Go early, go late--the...More

I expected more at this Japanese garden. It is clean and well maintained but somehow it did not fulfill my expectations.

Nitobe gardens is very much in the UBC campus. It is a Japanese garden. It is pretty, not too big. Also has a tea-ceremony - I think you need to book in advance. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is a Chinese garden that is free.
