This expansive beach offers fantastic picnicking opportunities, swimming, beach volleyball, or simply a panoramic view of Vancouver and the mountains. Spanish Banks tends to be a quieter beach which makes it very family-friendly.

My wife and I normally walk or cycle here from Denman/Robson Downtown and it is certainly worth the effort - especially on a sunny day when the sky, mountains, city blocks, sea and beach all come together seamlessly. A very relaxing place when there are not too many visitors or picnics (so decide why to visit and what time would... More

Great sandy beach, low tide lets you walk out to sea a lot, kites galore, volleyball nets set up, lots of parking but nowhere to buy amenities that you may have forgotten. Clean washrooms.

Watch the tide charts and head out just before low tide for a long walk out to hidden beach. This is one of the most beautiful beach areas in the city.

Plenty of space to play beach volleyball - great for larger groups. Also the grassy area is excellent for picnics and to play bocce ball.

Nice parking area, beautiful field to bring your dogs, many beach volleyball courts are the motivation to visit this place.

It can get quite busy on weekends in summer but weekdays lots of room. If tide is out can walk about 1/3 mile out into the bay. Lots of skim boards in the tidal pools, Concessions washrooms, change rooms showers available, Makes for a nice day.

Spanish Banks offer as good a beach as any to soak up some sun and get in a wade or a swim as any, and better than most. The sand and water are inviting, and the view of the North Shore is great. Parking was easy and is free.

This is another area that has changed greatly over the years and not all for the best. Beaches were nice and smooth but the fine blowing sand with the slightest breeze took much of the enjoyment out. At the far end where they have made benches from the drift wood is intriguing . One of the big disappointments is the... More

We came mid day when the tide was way out. My research indicated that parking was an issue but we easily found it at noon on a weekend although when we went home at 4 people were lined up waiting for spots. It's supposed to be a quiet beach meaning no amplified music but people were playing music anyways. Lots... More

Staying in West Point Grey

Neighbourhood Profile
West Point Grey
West Point Grey is one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, especially known for its easygoing and admired beachfronts. Locals crowd the Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach, especially in the summer, where a sprawling view of the English Bay awaits. The central village is an oasis of sovereign shops, many of them in local operation for years. The neighbourhood has a more personal feeling to it, and can be a wonderful and much-needed break from the bustle of big-city life, being a little haven of peace and quiet with an almost village temperament in the heart of Vancouver.
