It was an absolute delight to spend 5 nights at base camp. The facilities are very comfortable, while respecting the natural environment. Meals were impressive considering the remote setting. Staff were very welcoming and accommodated individual needs and preferences for food, activities and schedules.

There were lots of rare opportunities like floating quietly while watching a raft of sea otters, sitting on the beach and listening to the flapping of a bald eagle soaring above, standing at the base of an ancient tree.

I would be happy to return to Spring Island.

A spectacular 5-day sea otter kayak adventure for any level kayaker! A bucket list trip in July 2023 seeing hundreds of sea otters, beautiful tidepools and beaches. Fun glamping on Spring Island, Kyuquot First Nations land. Excellent guides. Great food served in a warm, dry dining tent. Bonus: A hot outdoor shower using conserved rainwater. Professional drivers take you from Courtenay to Fair Harbor where you get a water taxi. Travelled solo but joined a wonderful group of paddlers. Absolutely all -round amazing experience in a stunning area.

It was the perfect combination of personal challenges and stress-busting relaxation. After five days kayaking in pristine wilderness, I felt recharged and like a new person. Highly recommend.

This was my second trip; you often wonder if the first trip is the showstopper and the second trip wont measure up. This wasn't the case with West Coast Expeditions. Mother Nature, staff and accommodations continued to be 5 stars+ and then some. I would definitely go again and again. The complete disconnect from all things day to day lives makes this a special adventure with nature, people, cultures and yourself. Thank you to the whole team for an amazing time. Bonnie

A very rare opportunity to kayak the west coast in such flat warm conditions. Giudes were great, food amazing, sea otters galore, coastal wolves daily visits and some of the oldest old growth to date .

A beautiful experience! The staff was so welcoming and knowledgeable and we were very well fed. We got to stand inside a giant red cedar, watch the sea wolves howl, and hang out with the sea otters. An unforgettable, life-changing experience!

I have nothing but praise for the 5 day sea otter trip I did. The trip was perfect for my beginner skill level. The guides were very accommodating and took great care of the entire group. They were very knowledgeable and had interesting things to say about the areas we were exploring. The food was outstanding. The areas we visited were beautiful and with the guides easy to access. The campsites were great with spacious tents and actual mattress/bed frames.

Kayaking with Sea Otters was a trip of a lifetime! The remoteness of the location, the stunning scenery, the wildlife and the quality of the food coming out of the camp kitchen all combined to make this experience extraordinary. The kayaking guides are really professional; we always felt safe while kayaking and their introduction to our equipment was excellent. The cabins/tents we staying in were very clean (probably new), the beds were comfortable (no sleeping on the floor) and the view out the windows of the ocean, islands, mountains and forest was breathtaking and peaceful at the same time. As for the wildlife; we saw Bald Eagles, Sea Otters, Seals, Orcas, and Sea Wolves - the week we were there we shared the Island with two of them, saw one, saw their tracks in the sand and listened to them howl to each other on occaision.

After living on Vancouver Island for 50 years I finally made my way out to Kyuquot, we were not disappointed. The weather was very good and our experienced guides kept everything running smoothly. We saw hundreds of otters and other wildlife and paddled to a variety of destinations, all highlighted with great food that gave us a taste for the local culture. Awesome!

I loved everything about our 7-day kayaking adventure. Trip details and logistics were taken care of, including great food for in camp and on the water. The guides are very knowledgeable, willing to share information, which enhanced our experience of a very beautiful area. For anyone thinking about reducing your carbon footprint, West Coast Expeditions allows you access to beautiful coastline, without having to fly or take your own vehicle. It was great to be picked up and dropped off in Courtenay with their van. I plan to return next year, hopefully with a couple more friends.
