About
The mission of the Comox Air Force Museum is to preserve and teach the history and heritage of the Royal Canadian Air Force with a focus on CFB Comox, 19 Wing, and the west coast of Canada. A self-guided tour begins at the dawn of military aviation in WWI, WWII, Korea, the Cold War and United Nations Peacekeeping before reaching the section that features all of 19 Wing's past and present squadrons. The research library contains aviation reference materials, technical manuals, personal accounts, biographies, logbooks, and photographs. A well stocked gift shop is filled with clothing, hats, toys, and exclusive RCAF memorabilia. Heritage Air Park is home to a collection of aircraft that once flew at CFB Comox.

The outdoor Heritage Air Park has a nice display of aircraft models and heritage stones & memorials. However, visitors to the museum are subjected to invasive questioning about their personal health status, even though under the public health order museums are exempt from this requirement. It seems rather ironic that the museum, which seeks to honor those whose service has ensured the freedom of Canadians, would take this step to openly discriminate and not treat all persons equally.

If you are the least bit curious about the history of the RCAF (with some coverage of naval aviation) in British Columbia, don't wait: Visit the Comox Air Force Museum. I was expecting a good museum and found an excellent one! The exhibits are absolutely first class and match anything you'll find in one of the larger museums elsewhere. Best of all, the exhibits tell a good story, beginning with formation of the RCAF and with particular emphasis on west coast activity during WW II and the Cold War. Artifacts of note include a training version of a Genie nuclear tipped missile, an Oneda jet engine, a diorama of RCAF Station Comox as it appeared from the control tower in the 1950's, and a fighter ejection seat. The museum includes a research archive for serious historical investigations and a small gift shop. Very, very well done.

This is perhaps the best small museum I have been to! I went here to please my husband but was so impressed the minute I walked in the door. The staff was fabulous and took time to walk us around to some of the recent highlights. The displays are so well detailed that I learned so much. I loved trying to learn how to land a plane on their simulator and appreciated the variety of displays from the pictures to the artifacts. There is something for everyone here- and the gift shop is full of really neat things to take home! So well done!!!

Well I come out to Comox every year and I finally made some time to visit this charming, quaint museum of our Canadian Military History with emphasis on the history of Comox Air Force Base RCAF -Royal Canadian Air Force. The artifacts are in pristine condition and if you have no kids with you, you could hang for hours and just read and learn. My son is autistic so he didn't have much patience for the museum but it was small and friendly enough that he just went through the path over and over again as it's a circle and there is nothing he can break! Down the road you can park and walk through a lovely paved (stroller friendly) path to view the collection of planes and helicopters and if you know the Comox airport schedule, you can time your visit to see the WESTJET and Air Canada planes land. You are literally on the tarmac but safe behind a fence. Admission by donation. Reasonably priced gift shop

This is an excellent museum located in this small Vancouver Island community. It is actively staffed with volunteers and its admission is strictly by donation. The various displays dates back to WWI, WWII, Korean War as well as UN peacekeeping activities. The displays are very professionally done and the hands on activities are very much in keeping with the overall collection. The displays focuses on the airmen from the Westcoast and their contribution in the war and peacekeeping efforts. The museum have many personal memoirs donated by former enlisted airmen and their familis. They try to rotate their display periodically. Overall a highly educational and enlightening experience at this museum. There are also historical aircrafts on display a short distance form the museum.

Visit this small but impressive museum located at the gates of BC's only RCAF base. Walk through the outdoor aircraft display while modern RCAF aircraft fly overhead. Do research in the library with help from Allison. You can even get history directly by talking to the volunteers. You may even run into a Battle Of Britain vet dusting the shelves, shake his hand and thank him for his service to Canada!

Lived in the valley for many years and finally visited this great museum. It is full of many artifacts that have a personal note of the men and woman who served and lived in the Comox Valley. The airplane and tank models were fantastic. The displays took you from the first world war to the present SARC. Lots to see and read!

If you are interested in history of the Air Force especially the Canadian Royal Air Force then this is a must visit.

The staff are very helpful and the displays contain just the right level of information to be very informative without being too much especially for a small museum.

All in all a worth while visit
