Since 1914, the 772-seat McPherson Playhouse has been at the heart of Victoria's community arts scene. Built as part of the Pantages Theatre chain, this historic theatre is host to local companies including Kaleidoscope Theatre, Victoria Operatic Society, and Blue Bridge Repertory Summer Theatre in addition to presenting many professional theatre and concert performances year round. The McPherson lobby is home to The Gallery at the MAC, a showcase for local and regional visual art.

My first time at this beautiful, cozy playhouse! I went to see John Cleese & Eric Idle here, it was my first time. I love the traditional red & gold decor and the small seating capacity which really cultivates an intimate setting. Leg space is minimal... please note this you people taller than 5.4. I didn't have a problem, but... More

I have been in the McPherson theatre for various types of shows, like the Royal Theatre. They are both run by the City of Victoria. They are both reputed to be haunted from accounts from staff and customers. They were mentioned on a web site of paranormal places all over the world. It had something to do with some ghostly... What a grand theatre. Great shows, good prices. Victoria is fortunate to have such a lovely theatre right downtown.

Thoroughly enjoyed Mary Popins...amazing that after fifty one years I knew all of the words to the songs.

I had a good view from where I sat, St. Mikes was putting on a fantastic show, and there was a great art gallery upstairs. No problems! Just a good time at a comfortable theatre.

This theatre is an amalgam of modernist architecture outside, a spacious lobby with some nice touches like a glass strip running along the staircase which gives you a sense of floating. Inside the actual theatre, you time travel back to a very traditional theatre which looks like it was designed in the 1930s or 1040s. Its a surprise to be... More

This is an oldish theatre in a great location downtown. Seating is not the best. Very cramped and upstairs balcony gives one a virtigo. Would be a nightmare to vacate in case of an emergency!

The Acoustics when you are up in the balcony or second level is less than to be desired. There were many instances where we missed complete sentences :(

We attended a very exceptional performance of Phantom of the Opera, produced by students and staff of St. Michael's University School, and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

I have heard countless comedy acts, concerts, and plays at McPherson. I have yet to sit anywhere in the theater where the sight line and acoustics are not great.
