Because our original travel plans changed at the last minute (due to Washington Ferries taking the Anacortes to Sidney ship out of service for repairs), we drove to Port Angeles from Seattle to catch the MV Coho. Comfortable ship, pleasant and scenic ride.

Good food, similar to ski lodge eats! We got chili and hamburgers, coffee and a cookie. Plenty of seating and a great view for the trip over.

If you're taking a car, be sure to make a reservation in advance & arrive early as the ferry fills up quickly. The sailing was smooth and the staff was friendly.

Heading north the ferry allows you to avoid Seattle which is often a traffic nightmare. Reserve on line because it is often full. Figure on 2 hours 20 from Olympia.
