Victoria Shopping
Sep. 2019 • Friends
This is a very popular shopping area in Victoria off Government Street and backed by Douglas Street. I was in search of the perfect shoes. Elevators and stairs, interesting architecture. Truthfully I prefer the small specialty boutiques in the area.

Downtown core is not a pleasant place to walk. You think of Victoria as a quaint city...no more. Had to dodge panhandlers who rudely ask for money then hurl abuse if you don't give. People sleeping in doorways....drunks passed out. Lots of stores vacant.
Luckily we asked and took a bus to a mall. ..Mayfair.
Unless you are going for tea at Empress....I wouldn't go any farther..

Do NOT visit the Hudson Bay!
Jun. 2019 • Solo
I know my way around in every Hudson Bay in Canada.
But the ons in The Bay Center in Victoria is horrible.
Worst service ever!

I was inside looking for somebody to help me for over 30 minutes.
Nobody came.
There was nobody at the fitting rooms.
It says wait, but after waiting 10 minutes?
I left.

The store was a mess.
All fittingrooms dirty.
The security guy kept following me, Since I kept walking around with my clothes to find somebody to help me.

After 45 minutes I gave up!
When I was waiting at the customer service desk in a last attempt?
There was 1 person working there named Yi.
She was obviously new.
So it took forever with the person in front of me.

But when I saw that her manager Anita was trying on clothes herself and not help us?
That was it.
I asked for the manager and that took over 10 minutes.
Never talked to anybody.
Worst service éver!
Will not go there again!

It's a shopping mall
May 2019 • Solo
Shopping Mall linking two of Victoria's main streets, Douglas and Government. Dominated by a branch of Canada's best known Department Stores "The Bay" - formerly known as "The Hudson Bay Company".

Water Fountain back!
Mar. 2019 • Couples
We called in here this week as we normally do most weeks, and were very pleased to see that as well as redoing the bathrooms, they have reinstalled the water fountain that for some mysterious reason had been removed several years ago.
I was informed that the alternative was to use the water that was on the counter in two local coffee shops, but after trying this and being told it was for 'customers only' I gave up! Glad to see it back, and now with a bottle filler!

Everyday looks so dead, baycentre is going down crazy, nothing to shop. Bad parking. Rather to go to mayfair/ hillside, they have more stores for the shoppers.

Good Mall and home to Glen's Fabulous Sandwiches!
Sep. 2018 • Solo
Billing itself as Victoria’s “must shop” mall, The Bay Centre opened its doors in 1989. Back then, and until the end of the 20th century, it was known as the Eaton Centre. After Eatons declared bankruptcy in 1999, its retail space was taken over, first, by Sears and then The Bay (HBC). Besides its rather impressive architecture, what makes this mall noteworthy is the fact that it was the first major shopping centre in Victoria’s “Old Town” neighborhood. And it is exactly because of its location that it has maintained at least the facades of some old buildings that had to be cleared in order for the Bay Centre to be built. In that way, at least on a surface level, it maintains some of downtown Victoria’s yesteryear charm.

Even though we find ourselves in an era and age where the physical mall is allegedly dying and Amazon is king, the Bay Centre seems to be handling itself just fine. Sure, there aren’t hordes of people walking through its hallways, but it isn’t a ghost town, either, unlike some smaller malls I know. Part of the mall’s ability to stay relevant undoubtedly has to do with the number of stores housed within. Some of the more notable shops include Hudson’s Bay, Coach, Ardene, La Senza, Purdys,SoftMoc, A&W, Glen’s Fabulous Sandwiches and the Passport Canada office, amongst many others. With such an array of attractive shops, people want to come back. Of course, the other reason why the Bay Centre is doing well has to be attributable to its location. Situated as it is on Douglas and Government streets, the Bay Centre is but a stone’s throw away from Victoria’s iconic inner harbour and many popular hotels (including The Empress and Hotel Grand Pacific). Thus, tourists are sure to visit this grand mall.

I like visiting this mall on occasion. It’s fairly large (4 floors), but yet it somehow manages to maintain a relaxed and casual atmosphere. I’m sure the cozy chairs strategically placed throughout probably help! Because of that, it’s easy to picture my grandmother wandering through this mall as she did back when it was still the Eaton Centre.

(As an aside, I’m happy this place pays homage to its history via the large clock hung high in the mall’s atrium, commemorating the “Eaton Centre.” It’s a refreshing sight, especially given that most places these days try their best to erase what they once were.)

While I wouldn’t necessarily say this mall is a “must shop” place it is, nevertheless, worth a visit (and even a re-visit) because the shops are contemporary; the mall is easy to navigate; it has a relaxed atmosphere; and the food court, which is found on the fourth floor, is pretty stellar. And did I mention this mall also plays home to Glen’s Fabulous Sandwiches? Best sandwiches in the Pacific Northwest! ;) I'll give them an extra point just for that!

Lovely shoppes
Sep. 2018 • Couples
Hubby and I were strolling through downtown and came across this mall. You can enter it for all 4 sides on different streets. There are 4 floors, the 4th being the food court. There were many different stores that we had never heard of, being from the northeast of USA. They had many clothing stores, art galleries, dentist, eye doctor, etc. A very nice and clean mall with a lot of specialty stores.

Lots of variety at this upscale mall. So nice to escape the elements and have a place to walk and to sit. Free internet is a great perk.
