I expected a large walk-thru park, home to multiple totem poles. There were 5-6 in my recollection. The black painted one was an unusual carving I had not seen before in my travel around Washington state and San Juan Islands. Don't pencil this into your itenarary. It literally abutts the BC Museum on the Douglas St. corner and is a tiny corner of land.

This small park is well worth a visit due to its stunning totem poles and long house (which I’m guessing is not normally open to visitors). Next door is the original school house for St Ann’s academy and you can also see some older totem poles and other statues, taken in the 1950s, in a display in the museum which is completely visible from the path next to the park. It is very good to note that two of these items have now been returned to the descendents of their original owners,

We loved looking at all the Totem Poles in this small park. Unfortunately, there was no description for each totem pole to enhance our understanding.

We enjoyed our walk through this park, admiring the view of the water and the amazing totems. We passed through here on our way to the aquarium.

Take a moment to really take in the beauty of some of these glorious Totem poles. It's a small park but worth exploring.

After some loving detail added to one of the older totems and some trimming to this corner park, visitors can enjoy a fresher feeling of communion with First People here. The new totem is right in front of Mungo Martin House, right next to the Royal BC Museum on the corner of Douglas and Belleville Streets and should not be missed. Today I enjoyed the brightly coloured totem after it had been rededicated in a special ceremony. Being outside there is no worries about social distancing and the view is free!

This is by the museum on the waterfront. Well worth your time to walk through and see all the totem poles and display.

There were a lot of different kinds of totem poles in this park which made it easy to learn more about totem poles and to compare them. There was some signage, which was helpful in understanding some of them, but we would have liked more information about the others. The park was conveniently situated so we just walked there from the harbor area.

Since we came after a tour of Alaska, we knew the history of Totem Poles.
Never thought that we would see them in Victoria BC.
Totem Poles are large barks of trees, intricately carved into many shapes, which depicts Folk & Historical tales & painted in bright colours.
It is an interesting sight.
Worth a visit.

Is the totem pole area visible in the evening? We will be arriving on a cruise ship in August at 7pm. Not sure if we will be able to see them.

The sun should still be up at 7pm in August. I think it will be light quite late. The totem park is small, next to the museum
