About
IMPORTANT: We practice catch & release for ALL trips. Under NO exceptions do we keep fish to bring home to eat. Minimum age requirement of 12. All guests MUST weigh between 80-250 lbs (36-113 kgs) due to limited equipment at this time. After picking you up from your accommodation in Whistler we will get you looking like a local BC angler by putting you in a pair of waders and boots. This allows you to get into the water and stay completely dry! Depending on the time of year, you may catch Rainbow Trout, Bull Trout or Cutthroat Trout and your experienced fishing guide will select a water body that will give you the best chance of catching one of these species. Because of this, you may be fishing in a small stream, river or lake. Our thought process is simple. Drive less and fish more to maximize your time out on the water fishing. There are plenty of lunkers a short drive from the Whistler village.

Matt, the owner and guide, is quite the expert in fly fishing. Clearly he loves the sport. He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. We had no experience in fly fishing and he had infinite patience with us. Make sure you answer his emails in order to have well fitting gear that he supplies as well as licenses you will need to buy in advance. All the trout is released. My daughter caught the only good sized trout and had a blast doing it. The scenery is beautiful. We clearly need more practice to feel comfortable catching fish this way but loved the introduction.

Thanks for the kind words! It was a pleasure introducing you both to fly fishing. I’m stoked your daughter was able to put a nice trout in the net. I'm glad you enjoyed the scenery and the experience overall. Prompt email responses ensure we have everything set for a great outing. Looking forward to fishing with you again – practice makes perfect!

I did 3hr late afternoon trip with Matt. After a lifetime of fishing I had never cast a fly until my trip with Matt.I caught multiple Rainbow trout and Cutthroat. Matt was very knowledgeable, passionate and most importantly patient with a novice flycaster. The whole experience was 10/10 from the hotel pickup and the equipment supplied. I thoroughly recommend. Thanks Matt. Luke - Australia.

Matthew was amazing, taking us to beautiful places, while taking the time to teach us with a lot of patience and a wonderful energy.

The scenery was spectacular, the experience great: it was the best part of my stay in Whistler.

Whistler fishing Matt was super sweet. We were fly fishing which is not easy and it takes talent but Matt was patient with us. We were so cold in the Glacier fed lake but it was beautiful. We were taken to Green Lake for this adventure. We were outfitted with everything you need to fish. Depending on the weather dress very warm. I feel really bad for Matt as he had. A hole in his waders but stayed out in the lake with us. He really goes the extra mile. He picked us up at our hotel and checked up on us the next day. He helped us also get reservations at other activities and then emailed to see how that went. If you like to fish go with Matt.

I spent over two weeks backpacking throughout BC; my 3-hour fishing adventure with Matt was the highlight of my entire trip.

This was maybe the second or third time I've been fly fishing in my life, so I kept my expectations low. Upon meeting Matt, I knew that even if we were skunked out that evening we would still have a great time—he is kind, funny, patient, and most importantly totally in love with fishing.

After about an hour of nibbles, I hooked into something BIG. Kept my rod high and watched it horseshoe as whatever I caught took off for more than 15 feet. I knew this was going to be the biggest fish I've ever caught. I spent probably 10 minutes fighting this thing, and after finally bringing it in Matt quickly pulled out the net to seal the deal. I had caught a 4.5 lb bull trout, and it will be a while before I catch anything like that again. Totally unreal experience.

If you're thinking of fishing in Whistler, Matt is the only guy you should call. And if you're not planning on fishing in Whistler, I suggest you reconsider as this will be one of the best parts of your trip. I look forward to coming back and fishing with Matt again soon!

This is the second time I've gone out with Matt from WYRF. We met up with Matt and he was very professional when it came to safety and protocols, giving us a ton of explanation about wading technique, safe vs unsafe water to cross, etc. Gear was selected appropriately for us beforehand with comfy chairs and rubber mats to throw on waders without tearing up the fabric. Coming from someone who has experienced this a lot with surfing wetsuit changes in parking lots, it was a very nice touch.

As for the fishing...I've started flyfishing about 7 years ago, and this was hands-down the MOST number of fish I've ever caught and released in a day! Between my friend and I, we must have landed over 30 trout! At one point I actually found myself hoping the action would slow down b/c my hands were getting so cold from going into the water so often to release the insane number of rainbows we caught! Matt's site selection was spot-on, with my friend and I catching fish at every spot we wet lines at, within 10-15min of arriving, including some awesome bulltrout!

All in all, a great day on the water and well-worth the cold hands. Thanks Matt!

I went ice fishing with Matt at Whistler Year Round Fishing at the beginning of May and it was a ball! He picked our group up from our hotel and provided us with lined Wellington boots that kept our feet nice and warm.

We opted for the morning tour and within 20 minutes of picking us up we were on the ice. Matt has exclusive access to a local lake and we were the only ones out there! It was super cool to walk on the ice in the middle of the lake. The views were beautiful of Whistler and Blackcomb mountain and it was very peaceful.

Matt brought a big auger and drilled holes into the ice and a few of us even got to try our hand at it. We were each given a bucket and fishing rod and within minutes my friend caught the first rainbow trout of the morning. Matt was extremely attentive and taught us the best techniques and kept our lines filled with shrimp. We each got turns trying out the fish finder and all of us caught fish (I caught three!). It was super exciting so feel the tug on the line and the fish were safely released back into the lake.

I really wasn’t sure what I’d make of ice fishing but I felt as though it was a very Canadian experience and something totally different. Matt had us laughing the whole time and I’d definitely recommend getting out with him any time of year to do some fishing in Whistler - whether you’re a seasoned angler or first-timer.
