About
Established in 2016, the Audain Art Museum is a leading arts organization founded upon the major philanthropic gift of Michael Audain and Yoshiko Karasawa. Located in Whistler, British Columbia and designed by the internationally-renowned firm Patkau Architects, the AAM boasts a comprehensive Permanent Collection of the province’s most celebrated artists. Exemplifying the richness of cultural difference in Canada, the collection takes visitors on a transformative visual journey from the late 18th century to present. Highlights include hereditary Haida Chief James Hart’s 'The Dance Screen (The Scream Too),' an exceptional collection of historical and contemporary Indigenous masks, the largest permanent display of paintings by Emily Carr, and key examples of the Vancouver photo conceptualism movement. In addition, the Museum hosts dynamic Special Exhibitions from around the world.

Beautiful art gallery, collection of West Coast Art with a variety of artists and mediums.
A very large collection of Emily Carr. Docents lead one hour tours daily.
The building is beautifully designed. A must see.

Never having been to the Audain we were thrilled to see such an amazing art Gallery. The building itself is beautiful bringing the outdoors in. The galleries excellent. Coast Salish masks from the 1800s to new ones. The were really Wonderful to see. The focus of their art being B.C. artists particularly Emily Carr. There is a permanent exhibit of here works as well as a special temporary exhibition of her works while in France and works post France. We loved our visit.

The building, including the exterior that you can walk around and under, is worth a visit. The collections were definitely worth a visit. We had expected the Westcoast First Nations focus, and weren’t disappointed with the masks, carvings and other works going back 200 years. The diversity of non-FN paintings and photos was a pleasant surprise, and the old photos on loan from the National Gallery were really interesting. Good Covid plan in place, and everyone was keeping their distance.

Alta + Audain was a lovely experience. A private tour of the permanent collection followed by fine dining in a beautiful and unique setting. The tour was informative and interesting, and the art beautiful. The food was both delicious and stunning, with the ingredients coming from the nearby Pemberton Valley. The staff of both the Audain and Alta Bistro were wonderful. If you are unable to attend the Alta + Audain experience before they come to a close this summer, it is definitely worth checking out both the Audain Art Museum and Alta Bistro separately.

Big city quality in a small town. This gem of a museum has some of the best Emily Carr and other Canadian artists works available all in one place. The building is beautiful. The First Nations exhibit is very well done. A definite must see when visiting Whistler.

We came to Whistler for the purpose of seeing the Emily Carr exhibit at the Audain. The Museum is beautiful and calm, a work of art itself, and the exhibits are rich...they never disappoint, and so worth the drive up from Vancouver.

Gorgeous building. Collection of indigenous art includes some of the best pieces you'll see anywhere. Add two temporary exhibitions and you have good value without having worn yourself out for the rest of the day. If you are the non-shopping member of a couple, bring a book because the gift shop will be a half hour. Easy parking nearby, also walkable from Whistler Village. Note that it is only open a few days a week.

We have been members ever since it opened. And every time we have visitors we bring them to the Gallery. I consider it a must see for all who come to Whistler. It has a fantastic permanent collection and is always pushing the boundaries on their temporary exhibits. One of my favourite galleries anywhere.

Something for every taste. Even the kids liked the collection. It was great to see them standing and considering the pieces, even more because the Audain shows the incredible local BC talent. Lots of Emily Carr. Beau Dick and his fantastic masks and the other First Nations artifacts.

Just have to say that the Friday night dinner series with Alta Bistro was an inspired partnership. A great intro to the main collection by extremely knowledgeable, animated and engaged hosts... plus AMAZING food.
Bonus: Being outside the Audain for the time it takes to eat dinner also allows you to look around and truly appreciate the physical setting and spectacular architecture that isn't front of mind when walking the galleries.

Admission is $18 + GST for Adults. Children 16 and under are always Free. We are closed Tuesdays.
