About
Established in 2016, the Audain Art Museum is a leading arts organization founded upon the major philanthropic gift of Michael Audain and Yoshiko Karasawa. Located in Whistler, British Columbia and designed by the internationally-renowned firm Patkau Architects, the AAM boasts a comprehensive Permanent Collection of the province’s most celebrated artists. Exemplifying the richness of cultural difference in Canada, the collection takes visitors on a transformative visual journey from the late 18th century to present. Highlights include hereditary Haida Chief James Hart’s 'The Dance Screen (The Scream Too)', an exceptional collection of historical and contemporary Indigenous masks, the largest permanent display of paintings by Emily Carr, and key examples of the Vancouver photo conceptualism movement. In addition, the Museum hosts dynamic exhibitions from around the world.

I have seldom visited a gallery where the majority of the exhibits held my attention so well. This is an outstanding collection in a stunning gallery in a magical location.

This museum is much bigger than it looks! The permanent exhibit was interesting, but we absolutely fell in love with the temporary exhibit (Manabu Ikeda: Flowers from the Wreckage). A great surprise!

Beautiful museum, great Ikeda exhibit! I also saw the last painting that Emily Carr did - poignant and moving. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

We had the pleasure of visiting this museum during artist Manabu Ikeda's exhibit and also while he was in studio working on his art. Suggest to check the museum's website for his studio hours. The exhibit is incredible and we feel so lucky to have seen him at work. The rest if the museum's exhibit is also wonderful. What a gem to have this art in Whistler.

We were absolutely astounded by the work of artist-in-residence Manabu Ikeda. We almost left Whistler without stopping at the museum, but fortunately we made the last-minute decision to check it out. We are so glad we did!

If you are in town before Ikeda-san's exhibit ends in October, make the time to go. It is like nothing else you have ever seen. You can also watch him working in his studio on the weekends. Check the schedule for specific times. We had the good fortune to meet him, and it is something we will always remember.

The museum also has a great collection of BC artists' works. We enjoyed that as well, and will be sure to return on our next trip to Whistler. This was our first and we had no idea what a great museum this is.

A very surprising art museum, well worth a visit on a day off skiing. Great First Nations collection and a room full of astonishing Emily Carrs. The building is gorgeous too

The museum is absolutely wonderful in its own right, but we got to view the Rembrandt/Dutch Master's collection, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and so oddly satisfying.

portable stools are great idea. Indigenous artifact labels are not educational and only relevant to a curator. Gallery guide is in book format only and would be more useful if snippets easily available close to the collection pieces. The dance screen is phenomenal to experience but you are hot provided with any context or background or understanding how it would "work." So many opportunities missed to engage the visiting public.

The building itself is worth a visit- it is very Zen. As we went in on a hot day, we appreciate the coolness and calmness of the green view from beautiful wooden architecture. The art collection on Canadian paintings, and indigenous art (of western region) were definitely worth seeing. I want to go again. Also gift shop has amazing collection of silver jewellery.
