Koral is simply outstanding. She is probably the best tour guide we've ever met. She delivered wonderful commentary on a day full of polar bears and other wildlife.

The Polar Rover was comfortable, the outside deck was large, and the homemade lunch and snacks provided were fab.

Top day - thank you Koral and Great White Bear Tours.

Amazing staff, our guide Korale was very knowledgeable and friendly. I really appreciate that the company is local based and most of their worker are also local. I’ve seen a total of 17 bears during the tour. I really recommend this company . If you are looking for an experience you’ll never forget for the rest of your life, you need to jump on one of their Rover and go explore the tundra.

Just had a great tour with these guys. I was lucky to see a wolf early morning on way to the tundra trail. Saw four bears and one of them was pounding and breaking ice to try to catch fish(?).

Thank you for your 5 star rating and review! While the bears wait for the ice to form they will practise their ice breaking skills for seal hunting and males will engage in sparring (play fighting).

This was such a memorable day. We had Koral as our guide who was such a happy snd informative person. We had one bear come under the platform at the back which was amazing. Loved this tour, the buggy was nice and cosy and the stew served at lunch time was really tasty. Someone else has said about how they don’t book ever seat so you have lots of space to move around without being cramped.

Our party of 4 booked a day trip with Great White Bear tours on a recent 4 day visit to Churchill. There are two other tour companies that offer off road tours of the Churchill Wildlife Management Area with these custom built machines. Some reasons to choose Great White Bear-
1) They don't book all the seats in their rover so you can move from side to side to get the best views of critters
2) They include both a guide and a driver. Koral was our guide. She provides running commentary on local history, geology, biology, animal behavior, and more
3) It's a local family operation that builds their own machines and is constantly upgrading and improving them
4) One of those upgrades is a flush toilet on board, similar to a plane or train
5) The wife of one of the drivers cooks all the food that is provided for lunch and snacks. Good stuff!
6) Great White Bear runs a tightly choreographed operation with up to 6 rovers. They schedule the arrival and departures so the guests don't spend any time waiting and wasting time.

We had a good trip and saw several bears, arctic and red fox, scads of ptarmigans, and some waterfowl. One interesting note is that one of the other companies has an electric tundra buggy. We noticed that the whine of the electric propulsion system seemed to spook a couple bears.

First I need to say that we were not on a one-day tour; we were with Natural Habitat Adventures and were riding in the polar rover for three days. Natural Habitat Adventures is a top of the line tour company for nature tours, and they use only the best. There are basically two companies that do these tours in Churchill: Great White Bear Tours and Tundra Buggy Adventure. The unpaved routes through the tundra preserve are full of ruts; you will get bounced around on either. But if I can add this to all the great comments written by others, Great White Bear Tours' "polar rovers" (don't call theirs tundra buggies) have 3 axles rather than only two, and when there are pot holes of slush to get stuck in and contend with, these vehicles are mechanically superior to the other company's. You don't want to spend your nature-sightseeing vacation sitting in a bus that the driver is trying to rock back and forth only to get stuck in the next rut. Aside from that, these vehicles have washrooms with flush toilets...nice to know. The windows easily slide down for better picture taking. Finally, I worried about having to climb up steep stairs to get on this high-rise vehicle... nope, they back the rovers into to loading dock, so you walk directly into the vehicle from the parking lot...how great is that? Happy polar bearing watching... your friends will be envious of your pictures. Thanks to our driver Bill.

We have been hosted by Great White Bear tours twice now - in 2013 and in 2022. The two experiences were quite different, but equally exciting.
[In 2013, in October, there were mostly male bears who came up close to the vehicles. In 2022, in November, there were numerous females with cubs just heading out onto the ice for the winter.]
They have the most experienced and informed drivers on their polar rovers - wonderfully conceived and comfortable vehicles.
We have ridden with Bill (aka Grouchy, because he is anything but), Val, and Michael.
They and the van drivers who take customers too and from the rovers are all like an extended family - and they quickly include their guests into that family.
We wouldn't mind going again in a few years - the tourism industry there helps to fund the conservation of these "great white bears".

Cannot say enough good things about Great White Bear Tours. Our driver, Bill, was amazing. I wish everyone who travels onto the tundra could go with him. He spots not just polar bears and foxes, but snowy owls, which are almost impossible for the novice to notice. He has been driving for the tour for 20 years and really knows his stuff. He is safety conscious while at the same time offering an atmosphere that is fun, exciting, and even polished. His lunch and dinner service on the evening outing on the tundra are fabulous. This was one of my all-time top vacation experiences!
