About
Located minutes from downtown Winnipeg, Fort Gibraltar is an ideal venue for hosting a variety of events: weddings, corporate meetings, private functions, group tours and more! Historical tours and Three rooms are available year-round, offering modern facilities in an historical setting. (reservation requires) In the summer, Fort Gibraltar is also a living history museum offering interactive and educational guided tours about the fur trade era. Our costumed interpreters relive the daily life of the inhabitants of the site in 1815 as you visit significant buildings in the fort such as the blacksmith shop, the winterer's cabin and the trading post. In February, the historical venue is at the heart of the largest winter festival in Western Canada, the Festival du Voyageur.

I booked a guided tour for a group of 20 people (ages 5-40+). We loved watching the blacksmith make a nail! We were very impressed with the engaging presentations from all the staff. They did an amazing job staying in character while sharing the many stories of the Fort. The hands-on voyageur games were so fun to end the tour with. Some of our teens even wanted to continue the games once we returned home for our visit.

Some of our teenagers were very skeptical about how we would spend 2 hours in the Fort. But once the presentations started, they kept asking questions and were fascinated by what they saw and learned.

The group cost is extremely reasonable and absolutely worthwhile!

We had our Wedding Ceremony at Fort Gibraltar in August 2021, and it was absolutely perfect! The venue is well maintained, and has great air conditioning, so even on a hot summer day, it felt cool and comfortable. Decorations provided by the venue matched perfectly with the historical building, giving the space a beautiful rustic feel which matched our style completely. The staff were amazing to work with. They helped customize the wedding and did a phenomenal job organizing everything during the ceremony so the event ran smoothly. The venue also offers Zoom streaming with great quality sound and video, so our out-of-country family could all attend virtually. I couldn’t recommend this venue more, it was an amazing experience the way through.

We drove up last weekend for the Festival du Voyageur, located at Fort Gibraltar. I was a little hesitant to drive 7 plus hours from Minneapolis for an outdoor festival, but I'm really glad I went! The festival is all outside with some heated tents. There was a lot to see during the day with many reinactors and reinactments. This was especially around Fort Gibraltar. There was also a lot of great local music, especially French Canadian music. There were many families with young children and fun activities like sledding. We came back again at night and it was a different scene. People were getting rowdy with all the night bands! There was lots of alcohol available! It was really a different scene from afternoon to night, but both were equally fun! We saw people not being able to get in at night because they were sold out, so get your tickets earlier!

Went here during 2020 Festival, and honestly, this was the most entertaining part of it.
Yes the maple on a stick was nice, but this was way more interesting.
Period actors, real pelts in the trading post, the fort walls were interesting for my niece.
We learned a lot and had fun, while the rest of the festival seemed not as interesting and slightly dull.

Mind you it was a lot more fun than Covid is.

This fort was not actually used for battle, but for trading with the Aboriginals. They have re-created the environment as it would have been back in the 1800s, as the original was burnt to the ground.

Each cabin that you enter houses artifacts that would have been used or traded and a person dressed in character is there to explain and answer all of your questions. BE SURE to ask them lots of questions. The more you ask, the more you learn!

Each person we encountered was very knowledgeable and very interesting. The fur trader was definitely a favorite!

Be sure to go and check it out!

We went in February 2018. The $100.00 admission for four of us was really overpriced for this event. Staff at the ticket office had no information. Not much to see. Food was awful. Poorly organized with unmotivated staff. Don’t waste your time and money. Go to the Forks or some of the great museums instead.

We went to Winnipeg for our sons wedding. Fort Gibraltar was the venue. What a fantastic place. Staff had all aspects to the wedding under full control. We had absolutely no worries. The Ceremony took place on the steps to the fort with the recption inside. But before the reception we all went outside and did some axe throwing with the period costumed axe master. Everyone had smiles on their faces, the bride and groom looking relaxed and stress free. Again the staff took the burdens of wedding planning off our shoulders and helped to pull off a wedding of a lifetime. The old buildings are re constructed using the riginal Post and Beam style. What a beautiful building. Held 200 guests easily. Food was out of this world. If you are looking for a wedding venue away from the prying eyes of the public, this fort shuts down entrance access and their 30 ft walls keep the paparazzi out

Visited this place yesterday with my mother-in-law and my two boys aged 9 and 10. Fantastic detailed history lesson by different staff members - in costume- at each station. It was thoroughly engaging and educational at the same time. The boys gave the Fort bonus points for looking like Minecraft! Every staff member was excellent at their job. My younger son’s favourite spot was the watchtower. My 10-yr-old most enjoyed the voyageurs’ winter cabin and the blacksmith’s shop. We adults loved it all. So well done! Only suggestion for further engagement would be to provide (or sell) samples of historical snacks like pemmican and bannock, and maybe let us buy voyageur sashes.

The early pioneers working for the North-West Company faced unique challenges. The staff of historic reenactors do a fine job of telling the stories of how these people managed to work with the local Indian tribes and settle the lands. Highly recommend.

This is a staple of St. Boniface and Winnipeg as a whole. It is a great place to learn about the settlement of Manitoba, and it is a great place to host a number of events, including weddings.
