This was my first time at Enigma Escapes. I had heard good reviews from people I know, and after seeing the prices (higher than other vendors), I was expecting a great experience. We went to the Grant Park location and did not realize it was a 'pop up'.They make the most out of the space that they have, but it looks like it's been thrown together in a short time. The production value and level of difficulty of the puzzles is nothing compared to other escape rooms in the city. We did the Butcher of the Catacombs, and escaped very quickly. Our game master said we solved the two hardest puzzles in the first few minutes. Overall, very underwhelming.

i have been very torn on how to review enigma as it has 3 Locations that vary a lot in quality. Here is a summary of all 3:

Lorimer: conveniently located, best rooms of the 3 Locations in my experience, But very unprofessional staff. Would not recommend bringing kids as the behavior of staff is inappropriate. The rooms are great but sometimes when asking for hints there is too much delay before one is given. Have also had issues more than once of locks being left open.

Regent: opposite of Lorimer. Weird location, rooms are clearly built cheaper with obvious repairs, but the friendliness and professionalness of the staff is 5/5 stars.

Grantpark: the worst rooms, with not great staff. Would not recommend this location to anyone. The rooms are supposed to be scary but there are no ceilings (also a problem at the regent location) so you can hear everyone else in the building.

If enigma could have the staff of their Regent location, with the rooms of the Lorimer location, they would be the best in the city.

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion I feel I need to defend the staff of our Lorimer location. If you had a less than satisfactory experience I assure you that had you brought it to our attention we would have appreciated hearing about the specific employee or employees so we could address it rather than having a blanket statement painting them all as unprofessional. We are extremely proud of our staff at all locations and do not really think it is appropriate to use such a broad brush. Having said that, we will certainly raise your concerns to them as a group. As a small family-owner business working diligently to please our customers, particularly during stressful times brought on by the pandemic - we try extremely hard to deliver a safe, fun experience to our guests. As people will see from reading other reviews on Tripadvisor and elsewhere in most cases we deliver on that promise. If our set up is not to your liking I completely understand and do suggest you visit some of the many other fine escape establishments in Winnipeg. We all appreciate support from the community particularly during these very trying economic times.

A very fun experience at these escapes rooms. Though I would argue that they are a step below Real Escape in terms of the overall experience, level of puzzles, puzzle difficulty, and a slightly lower quality in terms of the story experience of their escape rooms. That being said, these rooms are still very fun and what Enigma Escapes may lack in terms of quality they actually gain in terms of options. With three locations they have plenty of different rooms to choose from. For now, I have given them four out of five, but if they step their game up they might be able to challenge Real Escapes for best escape rooms in the city.

I had never been to an escape room before and for our friend’s birthday, we decided to try one. We were the last booking on the night an Connor was great explaining the concept of the “room” which was, “what happened in ravenwoods?” It was pretty funny because our friend that booked it had no idea we would be in the dark the entire time. Would definitely go again! Was an amazing first experience. Thanks to our game master Connor! :)

We had a great time doing the family/kid friendly "Dark Hedges" room at the Grant Park location. There were 5 of us and only one person had ever done an escape room before. Our game master, Mark, was awesome. He answered all of our questions before we headed in and was appropriately helpful during the game. This is an intro room and for a group of rookies, the challenge level was perfect. Our kids, ages 10 and 13, really loved it and afterwards, we were all talking about when we could go back again and try another room!

5 family members ranging from 11-50 did the Christmas Story escape room. Everyone had such a good time. Lots of variety in puzzles and challenges. Our game master was fantastic and guided us if we went off course. This is now the begining of a yearly Christmas tradition.

We had a great time playing Butcher of the Catacombs. The puzzles were challenging, the rooms were dark, the story line was creepy. Our game master was fantastic. My only issue is that you’re not as immersed in it as you could be so it wasn’t as scary as I had hoped. You are able to hear mall noises while in the rooms and it does take away from the experience a bit. I’m not sure that there’s anything that could be done to change that, given the location but still had a wonderful time, totally worth it and would definitely go again to try a different room!

We escaped from the Butcher of the Catacombs as a team outing. Sarah was our game master and we had so much fun! She made sure we were in control of when we got hints, and wasn’t too obvious with the ones she gave us. She gave us lots of jump scares during the experience, which really added to it! The game was really interactive, and the puzzles were challenging to solve but not impossible. There were 7 of us, and it didn’t feel crowded. We all enjoyed it and will definitely be back!

The escape room was alright. Definitely not one of the best. The rules were not explained properly (they never specified how many rooms there were, so we thought we had plenty of time in the first room because we didn’t know there were two more afterwards), the locks got switched, so we wasted a ton of time trying to figure out a lock when all of a sudden the “room master” typed up on the screen that they had messed the locks up, and that was time we did not get back on the clock. The rooms were small and a little underwhelming compared to other escape rooms I’ve been a part of. The video they showed lacked good acting, and I appreciate satire, but it was to the point that the workers didn’t really care about the effort that was put into it, so it didn’t really put us into an immersive state either. And it would’ve been nice if they sent us the picture they took of us at the end. I digress. I would’ve given it a 2.5 if I could have.

I went to Enigma escape with a large group of people and the staff were quick to get us started. They were friendly and professional. The rooms were great and lots of fun. We had all sorts of ages in the two rooms and everyone left with a smile on their face. Thanks for a great escape room experience
