Overview
More
The Soldiers’ Barracks is an 1827, three and a half storey stone structure built by the British Army to accommodate more than 200 British soldiers. A bronze plaque honours the 104th Regiment. Remarkably, as reinforcements for the war of 1812, six of its companies made a 1,128 km, 52-day march to Quebec and then to Kingston, Ontario, between February and April of 1813, with no loss of men. The lower level of the Barracks houses the Barracks Fine Craft Shops, featuring local artists producing & selling their wares. In addition to fine crafts, River Valley Crafts provides visitor information, tickets for programs within the Historic Garrison District, refreshments and souvenirs. Open daily June to September. English and French tours are available from interpreters at the adjacent Guard House in July & August.

We were passing through Fredericton on a rainy day and many of the things we had planed to do didn't take place because of weather. This was a short tour but was interesting and we're very glad we took the time.

Historic building that could use a little tlc or maintenance to keep up. The museum/guided tour and children experiences on offer are fine.

We came here after dinner since it was a stop on the city's geocaching tour. It was a nice place to stroll to and we loved learning about the barracks' history. The geocache was hidden in a clever place!

We visited the Fredericton Region Museum and neighboring Soldier's Barracks and were most impressed with the excellent displays of artifacts. The visit thru the museum was rewarding and a unique learning experience. The Barracks definitely showed how difficult it must have been for a soldier...More

Small craft stores in the barns. Historic artifacts in the officers area. Toured by costumed actors. The actors hang outside all day (summer) doing performances and games of croquet. Very fun

As you walk through the downtown of Fredericton, it is worth stopping to see the changing of the guards, the barracks and all the associated buildings in this area.

The tour was very informative and detailed. Our tour guide was very friendly, knowledgable, and patient. We enjoyed the tour, especially our children (7 & 12 yr old). Very glad the tour guide talked us into taking the tour.
