We love Kilarney, We do have hang out on the beach, or take the paddle boards out. The lifeguards are very strict with rules, no floaties in roped-off area, no adult beverages. Though I have noticed they tend to ignore the adults with drinks and only seem to bother the University aged ones (I say this as a 30 year old). No dogs on beach but can take them off the sand area.

I have been known on more than one occasion to turn to the person beside me on the beach and say - how lucky are we that this is right here in Fredericton. I mean, we can go to the beach, there is sand, there is cool refreshing water, there are trails... all for free. All within ten minutes of downtown Fredericton.

Just another amazing thing about Fredericton ;)

nice but watch for all the dogs running off leash here. I have a number of dumb owners here letting their dogs off leash where many a sign say its illegal in this city park. It doesn't make for a pleasant hike when your accosted by large dogs as you try to walk the trails for fitness or to relax...the city really needs to enforce their by-law which i;m assuming they don't at this location.

I visit this Park often in all seasons. Winter by snowshoe or cross country skiis and summers hiking and swimming in the Lake. Has a nice sandy beach and water is warm during July and August.

Now that the winter truly set in, it can be challenging to find a place to walk safely. Killarney Lake Park Trails are a great solution. The Wostawea ski club does a great job of grooming several km of wooded trails.

Please don't step on the ski tracks, however, as those are for the people who like to glide fast, and make way for skiers duck-walking up hill. If you bring you dog, keep it leashed.

Snowshoes are often used, and can be great on the non-groomed side trails. But basic winter boots will serve you just fine.

Spot the ice fishers out on the lake from the short lake trail, or head off into the deeper woods. Breathe deeply.

For swimming, the lake is pretty nice. The beach is good and there's a side of the lake near the road that's less crowded, but has quite a lot of traffic noise.

There are a couple of change rooms, a lifeguard, good parking, and lots of grassy areas for picnics and stuff. There's a nice pond on the road side of the lake with lots of frogs.

For hiking, some parts of the trails are fairly well-marked while others are decidedly not. The trail around the lake is easy. Trail #4 was pretty easy to follow, but trails 6 and 7 - while somewhat marked at the beginning - are not easy to follow once you get a couple of kilometres away from the lodge. As you get away from the lodge there can be a lot of water on the trails that may not be easy for you to get around. We had to go off into the woods several times to get around very large puddles, up to 6 metres long. They were fairly deep too, deeper than your hiking boots for sure.

Also, hiking away from the lake there isn't a lot to see except for trees, the path, flies, and some bogs.

Complicating matters are the other woods roads that look just like the trails. It's pretty easy to get off on the wrong road and end up, let's say, as far away as Wal-Mart.

The last day we hiked on trails 6 and 7, it had rained the day before and the deer flies were relentless. Those flies pretty much ruined our hike. They were biters too.

I'll definitely go back, but my phone's map app will be on for sure.

We live close to Killarney Lake and go there often. The trail around the lake is particularly picturesque, with a view of the water all the way round. There are lots of trails off the main one, as well. Slightly hilly, but an easy walk. Trails are quite wide for the most part (user friendly). Our dog loves it, too, although dogs have to be on-leash. Lots of parking in 2 spots: by the lodge and a short distance up the road by the beach area. Beach has lifeguards and picnic areas. Highly recommend!

Shallow enough for the little ones. Pack your picnic and roast the hot dogs right at the park. The beach is clean, play ground on site and washrooms. A favourite summer spot!

Our family loves to spend time at Killarney Lake. Whether it's to walk or swim, it's a great spot. Though it's a man-made lake, the views are spectacular and refreshing!
