An wonderfully designed and though out interpretation centre dedicated to the Acadian people of the 21st century. Housed in the, still operational, Notre-Dame-de-L’Assomption cathedral, innovative technology is used to tell the Acadian story of the region. This was definitely the highlight of my visit to Moncton!
My guide, Ginette Pellerin, was incredibly knowledgeable and it turned out she also created a film, “ON A BÂTI UNE CATHÉDRALE”, about the cathedral and its Acadian history! That film started the ball rolling to preserve the cathedral.
A very worthy project to not only preserve the church and its unique architectural aspects but also as a monument to the Acadian people and their heritage.

The Cathedral was absolutely beautiful and everything we expected. The interactive video was very well done. Given the truth and reconciliation recommendation by our Federal government I was a disappointed by the lack of recognition of our indigenous people in this video. Much like our educational system has done, I would like to see this video adapted to include this very important part of our history. Thank you for the tour. I look to the adapted video on my return out East.

Visited today, If you visit Moncton don’t miss the chance to visit this beautiful cathedral, didn’t know what to expect but the tour was amazing, The guides, Mitchel and Josée were so nice answering any doubt or quiestion and made the tour super interesting, the cathedral still functions as a church so if you’re lucky you could attend to a mass or listen to a organ concert, the biggest organ in Atlantic Canada!

I’m so glad I went in! I was shown round this amazing building by the very knowledgeable and charming Lea - in between which was a very clever, modern and enjoyable 25 minute digital presentation about the cathedral, its founder and its Acadian roots. In an air conditioned room!

Absolutely fascinating, and a must if you want to know about this important aspect of Moncton, and NB in general.

Really interesting tour and the immersive projection was amazing! Unique details in this cathedral like the women depicted in beautiful stain glass windows and the presence of natives and local industries. My son really enjoyed the detective activity! Thanks!

Go without hesitation! If you love history and architecture, you will be well served! I loved my visit where I learned a lot about the Acadian people, a strong and resilient people. I was accompanied by a very kind, welcoming guide who took her time to tell me a thousand and one stories about the church and the Acadians. Thank you again Mrs. Pellerin and hats off to all your team!

A beautiful cathedral! Despite its external appearance, rather austere, it is essential to stop there if you are lucky enough to pass through Moncton as a tourist.

But it’s also a place to revisit, with a closer eye, if you’re from the Moncton area or another part of Acadia...
For perhaps we visited this cathedral without really having had the opportunity to marvel at the brightness and colors of its stained glass windows, or to scrutinize them very closely to find out what they represent...

Perhaps we didn’t have the opportunity to look up to the motifs of the sculptures adorning the capitals of the columns that support a building that speaks volumes about the history and way of life of the Acadians. A mosaic even illustrates their relationship with First Nations.

With friends, I had the chance to rediscover this cathedral from another angle, thanks to passionate and very pedagogical guides who could answer all our questions!
Two interactive terminals, very well executed, allow to review the details of the stained glass windows, at our own pace.

It should be noted that in order to revive this cathedral (which was threatened with destruction a few years ago), the team that set up to showcase this Acadian heritage jewel did not skimp on innovative technologies.

Indeed, during the visit, we can witness a documentary presented in three dimensions on the construction of this cathedral... We are then immersed in the life of a “cathedral builder” of the 20th century, Monsignor Mélanson, Thanks to his determination and the generosity of the Acadian people, it did not even take him two years to complete his project! ( 1939-1940)

A super informative visit, not to be missed! We understand why Acadian resilience has no limits!
