This Victorian Gothic church is magnificent. I only wished I could have gone inside to see the interior, but as everyone knows, churches are no longer open to the public except on Sundays and special events. (In Europe, most of the well-known cathedrals and churches are open for viewing). Interesting fact: The bell tower and steeple is 210 feet tall and topped by a 6-ft long wood gilt fish weathervane. The fish was an early symbol for Christianity (and not a symbol of fishing in Saint John, which is what most people would probably think).

I stumbled upon this historic and beautiful church today on our cruise ship docking. We walked through the front doors however they were holding some sort of class or activity inside and therefore we did not coincide. Very beautiful grounds and building

Perched on a high hill and the spire can be seen for miles around, is a church done in stone Gothic Style. Very beautiful on the inside as well as out. Free to go in, a guide is available if you wish. Some beautiful stained glass windows.

Beautiful historic church. It's a one block walk walk from the underground pedestrain walkway, so it's pretty convenient to get to. The church was open during the day and there is no admisson fee. There weren't any tour guides at the time, but they had sheets descibing everything in the church so it wasnt a problem. We were able to walk around at our leisure and take some fantastic photos. Be sure to look up, the ceiling of the church is modeled after a hull of a ship and is quite impressive.
Also, you must be able to climb quite a few steeps steps to get in the front of the church.

The day of the 911 disaster I was giving my visitors (tourists) a tour of this church. It is a large church for this city. It is worth getting informed of its History. (Saint John, the Loyalist City!)

This is a beautiful church which has been restored to its original beautiful state. Talked to a curator who pointed out the English Coat of Arms which had been removed during the Revolution and restored.

I went to Church at Trinity Anglican Church in Saint John, New Brunswick on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Trinity was founded right after the Revolutionary War (May of 1783) when a number of loyalists (3,000 refugees) moved to Saint John to escape persecution. Trinity is an “uptown” congregation with an active and vibrant inner-city ministry that includes a Parish Nurse. Their aim is faithfully to proclaim the Word of God and administer the sacraments. They believe the same Christ who comes to them in worship compels them to seek to transform their neighborhood through ministry, preaching the Gospel, and sharing in worship, fellowship and outreach. In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, they attempt to, “Preach the Gospel at all times, and when necessary, use words.”
The sanctuary was remarkably beautiful. I found myself immediately expecting worship to be meaningful to me, and it was. I am neither Anglican nor Episcopal. I was not used to their ritual; however, that did not take away the power of the experience for me.

This old church is gorgeous, and the history behind it is fascinating. The sexton showed me around, and pointed out flags dating back to the U.S. Revolutionary War and a coat of arms stolen from Boston by British soldiers and sent to Canada with the first loyalist settlers. For history buffs, this church is worth the very short walk from the center of St. John.

Churches are an important part of every city tour. Don't miss our ancient churches. This is one of the biggest and most important ones in town. You will be impressed.
