We chose Wildland Tours’ May Magic on the Avalon on May 16 -May 20, 2023. We travelled North America’s most easterly point to Cape Spear. Breathtaking view of natural habitat. After stopping at Bay Bulls historic site, our fantastic Tour leader, Darrell Penney, took us on O’Brien’s Boat Tour to North America’s largest Atlantic Puffin colony. Coutless varieties of seabirds for the eye to see. We were close up as they flew by! Cameras were clicking. Privileged to see many natural habitats and woodland animals as we travelled upward along the Southern Shore. Stopped by the UNESCO World Heritage site. Bonus to see the oldest, largest complex life-forms 580 to 560 million-year-old Ediacaran fossils that are not found anywhere else on earth! We stopped to see coastal colourful communities-took photos of fishing boats and their hand-made lobster and crab traps, and then continued and saw icebergs in May! If you get a chance, stop by the EDGE OF AVALON INN. What mouth-watering stuffed chiken breasts! Everything is done fresh and delicious. I recommend this Inn. The owners are so friendly and accommodating. We saw our continent’s 3rd largest and most accessible Northern Gannet colony. This is the breeding ground for the world’s most southerly breeding thick-billed murres as well as thousands of other seabirds. Wow. Evenings, we ventured wherever we wanted to go. We explored the shops, and many restaurants for evening meal experiences. I really enjoyed the fresh cod at the Salt House. If you mention you’re a Wildland Tour visitor at this fantastic gift shop: WILD THINGS, 120 Water Street, you receive a 20% discount on all your souvenir purchases. Everyone in St. John's is friendly and we enjoyed talking to them and learning their culture. Bonus: Wildland Tours treated us to a lovely farewell evening meal. And, besides being picked up at St. John's airport, we were given a pre-paid taxi voucher for our return back to the airport. Thank you to all the staff at Wildland Tours for the warm welcome and for this priceless experience. Marie Felix (Toronto, ON)

We got super photos of puffins and whales. Captain cruised slowly and quietly when closed to the puffin island. Oil paintings of puffins soon.

First time visiting NL. We are glad we found this tour randomly on line. It was a small group. Itinerary was perfect with mixed of boating, hiking, wildlife chasing etc. It was full of highlights every day. We saw iceberg and so many whales at close distance, millions of Puffins and Gannets, amazing experience. Our tour guide Stewart is resourceful, professional and always have interesting stories to entertain us. He went extra mile to make sure we had wonderful time. Our driver Martin is skillful and funny. Everyone we encountered from booking are amazing, Ann, Jane and others we interacted on the phone and in person at gift shop.

We felt we need to share our good experience and we highly recommend this company and their tours.

Went on the Newfoundland Adventure tour - was outstanding from start to finish.

Our guide Stew Cochrane and driver Marin Batstone were both excellent.

I would have liked the opportunity to do a bit more walking, some of the driving was a long time to be sitting, but overall there were plenty of activities to do.

Saw much (but probably just a fraction) of the Newfoundland wildlife but unfortunately no moose this trip, but the O'Briens boat trip where we had harp seals, bald eagles, icebergs and humpback whales more than made up for it.

Will take the opportunity to book with Wildlands if I go to this part of Canada again.

My only negative would be to review the use of the Double Tree as while the rooms were very comfortable, the restaurant was very disorganised due to staffing and COVID issues. The last days at the end of the trip, they didn't accept the vouchers and the group went elsewhere for breakfast.

Hi, thank you for your thoughtful review! So glad to hear that you had a wonderful experience and got to see the varied seabirds and wildlife of our province. We will be sure to pass your kind words along to Stew and Marin. We have already been in discussion with our partners regarding the challenges with the vouchers provided. Should you, your family or friends wish to visit in the future we would be more than happy to host you again, Moose included this time.

the trip was well planned, the leader was a continual source of expert knowledge.
Our food and accommodation were excellent and our tour leader and guide , Mark was welcomed where ever we went, .to eat, stay or on excursion.
He also had a dozen or more special sights- an orchid that just bloomed, a bald eagle, etc.

We were spoiled - there were only four of us in the group! We enjoyed a very personal and liesurely tour in a mini-van - not a gigantic bus - driven by our guide. He had a wealth of knowledge about his beautiful province, conveyed it in an interesting manner, took excellent care of us, and was just plain good company. He was also flexible and open to suggestions about changes in the itinerary. We never felt hurried or rushed. The historical sites were interesting, and the wildlife was fantastic! You might find a cheaper tour of Newfoundland, but you won't find a better one. It was worth every penny, and I'll never forget it!

My husband and I took a tour of western Newfoundland and Labrador with Wildland Tours in July 2019. It was wonderful - amazing rugged and beautiful scenery, comfortable lodgings and van, good value. Our tour guide, Mark, was highly knowledgeable about geology, wildlife, history and culture, and able to answer every question the group had. We would definitely book with Wildland Tours again.
