Our favourite for Newfoundland entertainment was O'Reilly's. Servers were great, but the live music was traditional and fun. Highly recommend!. Don't waste your money with being screeched in and the other bars. Unless you like being ridiculed.
Yes, there are lots of pubs, side by side. Yes, lots of music happening. And the establishments do vary. However it is somewhat seedy. Actually, George Street is about the length of a soccer pitch. If even.
This is a must place to visit if you are in St. John’s. The street is full of bars and restaurants. Make sure you visit Brian at Christian’s bar for a screeching in ceremony...he is far and away the best. You will not be disappointed.

The last weekend in July into early August is quite busy. The George Street Festival is the last weekend in July. The St. John's Annual Regatta is the first Wednesday in August. 2018 is the 200th anniversary. So, if you are going to come around then you'd best book tickets (to the George Street Festival) in advance. Other than that, tourisrm time is busy (restaurant reservations might be an idea) but not brutal.
