We went middle of August and we knew that was the tail end of whale season, so had measured expectations. Still a little disappointed not to see a whale. Nice tour and cool to see cape spear. Captain was informative and pointed out puffins and bald eagles.

Warning - we booked a few month prior (paying online) and we’re surprised we needed to pay a fuel surcharge upon arrival (an extra $6 a person). I understand gas prices increased in the summer, however they had my money for several month prior and also never sent an email communicating this additional cost. They also only accepted cash. The additional frustrating part was we paid the same price online as the price that was listed on the kiosk board.

Other tips:
- even if it is super hot out, bring a jacket. It gets cool out on the water
- take anti nausea meds before, the seas get rough
- bathroom is available on the boat, but no bathroom at kiosk
- beer was $12 a can

After a couple of weeks cruising various ports in Greenland and Iceland we felt we had seen enough landscapes and waterfalls for a while, spectacular though many of them had been. So we booked a boat trip around St John’s harbour. The meeting point was convenient and easy to locate, and the crew friendly and helpful. It wasn’t the right time of year for icebergs, nor much in the way of wild life, but the captain made the best of it and a good time was had by all. Bouncing along in a relatively small boat made a nice change from an ocean-going liner. And the 2-hour trip still left us enough time to explore St John’s.

Great staff and good tour of St.John's from the sea outlining important historical facts. We didn't see any whales which was a disappointment. They told us that apparently the whales were 2 weeks early due to the ocean being 2 degrees warmer than normal. My only critique: They could have done more to point out the puffins which they said "were all around". I personally didn't see any of them since it was rough on and the puffins are quite small (I didn't realise this). Since the sea was rough and I was getting queasy so stayed in the covered section of the boat so didn't see anything.

The positive is that we did see a bald eagle and some interesting looking fish as well as some geographical landmarks. The other positive was that the physical ticket had discounts to places to eat that we used! That saved us a ton of money so I would say that it was well worth it.

Tour crew was delightful (offered us free sunscreen, a candy at the end and to get Screeched In on the water), but it was clear from the beginning that they knew we wouldn’t see any whales in mid-September; and that instead it would be a scenic coastal tour. I’m definitely glad I didn’t lug around my 6 lbs wildlife photography lens for 2 eagles and a sun fish! The boat was packed, I had to stand the entire trip as there’s very limited outdoor seating. I also saw a number of people get seasick, so make sure you’re prepared to manage what the water gives you that day. Overall a nice cruise with lovely staff, nothing overly unique or exciting.

Such a compact, active, historically significant port is best appreciated from a boat. Even better we went outside the heads and down to Point Spear. A rare sunny day added to the agreeable 2 hours on board

Don’t book this excursion. They take your money and you don’t book any other excursions and then they wait and call you at the very last minute to cancel.

We were a little disappointed this time around. The boat was full with minimum seating unless you went inside.

Last year they had live music and it was very entertaining. and unfortunately this time there was nothing. We actually went to relive the experience.

Good tour if you want to along the coastline.

A big shout out to Glenn (one of the crew)...this guy is awesome!!

The tour is definitely a must do when you’re in town. Glenn was an absolute delight to have , he made sure everyone was comfortable, drinks filled, garbage put away and even gave us a blanket for one of the kids we had. He was definitely one of the highlights of the trip!

The crew were very friendly & knowledgeable. The water was rough but they did a good job by taking it easy. They did their best to point out Puffins & other interesting items. No whales. They were gone. Not their fault.
