Join Newfoundland's award-winning boat tour Iceberg Quest as we depart from the heart of downtown St. John's. Walking distance from hotels and B&B's, our two hour fully narrated tour lets you experience Cape Spear, Cabot Tower, and Fort Amherst from the sea. Witness the world's largest concentration of humpback whales, watching as they thrust their massive 40 ton bodies into the air. Show times may vary! Steam through the passageway of 12,000 year old icebergs and view the elegant Atlantic Puffin. Both entertaining and educational, our narrated tour is fun for the whole family. Private charters and special packages available. Departing daily at 9:30am, 1:00pm, 4:00pm and 7:00pm, our tours offer traditional music, snacks and full bar service, and 'screech-ins'. We invite you to "Step aboard. Experience the WONDER!"

Got to see some amazing coastline but wow that boat rocks! Loved it. Be sure to take a jacket - once out of the bay the temperature drops drastically

This company accommodated our off-season request for a trip out on the ocean and we couldn't have been happier with our Captain Barry and his first mate (sorry, forgot his name) were amazing! Carol Anne was so awesome to deal with when making arrangements for our off-season trip. We will definitely be coming back in the summer time for another... More

A boat tour was NOT in my plans that day, especially since I own and operate the tour boat company... "True North Charters and Tours" on the West Coast of the Island, and have practically spent everyday on the water since May. Encouraged by my friends visiting from Ireland to join them, at the last minute I pulled a spontaneous... More

This is a magical way to see icebergs. Seeing them up close on the water was one of the top nature highlights of my life. Truly. Our whole experience with Iceberg Quest was top notch. I live in St. John's and recommend the trip for both locals and travelers.

We didn't really think a boat tour would be possible in October, but it was such a perfect, beautiful day, a 1:00 tour was planned. Awesome time with lots of history provided and the perfect way to see the incredible coast line up close. A really fun "Screech In" ceremony is offered as well.

Had super trip out in the Atlantic with Captain Barry and the crew. Wonderful people, wealth of knowledge, oh and the whales were not bad either! Great excursion would definitely go again

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Fabulous captain and crew. Great history of ships and buildings in the harbour, as well as Cape Spear and other areas. Toured by the sea caves and followed some whales. Also, an on-board bar and bathrooms with indoor and outdoor seating options.

My husband and I went on this trip only last Wednesday 14 September 16, obviously to late for icebergs and whales but it was a beautiful sunny day and the staff were so helpful, offering me a blanket if I got a little chilly and enjoying the iceberg beer that they served in the bar, it was delicious, I will... We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-hour tour of the harbour on a picture perfect day aboard the Iceberg Quest Ocean Tour! Prior to boarding, our captain and his staff provided an excellent safety briefing and, upon boarding, we noticed that the ship was immaculate. The captain and staff were very friendly and openly shared their in-depth knowledge and experience with us... More

Went out on the 1 pm tour. Didn't expect much... But our minds were blown! The guides said we wouldn't see much wild life... BUT we saw fin whales and dolphins! So amazing---- they said this was rare for the season! Andrew and the other guide were very helpful - nice and super friendly! The captain had a great commentary-... More

Hi all,

My name is Matthew and I'm from Toronto.

I have always wanted to plan a trip with my girlfriend to the East Coast to see the whales and ice ... and I would like to make 2015 the year it is going to happen!

I would like to ask a few questions about the experience and planning such a trip and would really appreciate if anyone could offer some advice or tips for a couple who will take the trip.

1. When is the 'on' season to see the whales and bergs ... at the same time?

- is there any point in trying to plan something during the 'off' season ... would you save any money with other bookings (hotel, etc.) and would you compromise what you see?

2. How long do people usually go if they are planning to primarily see the whales and bergs?

- should one consider a few days as a minimum because of what you can ... or ... cannot see when you go out on a boat?

- in other words is it a good idea to have a back-up plan and consider going on a second day of boating because you could not see anything on the first boat-trip?

3. Where would you recommend people stay/lodge when they are planning a berg/whale excursion?

- are there nearby hotels to the piers/wharfs?

- is there easy travel to the piers/bays from other locations?

- is it more expensive to stay at a place that is nearby the bay with the boat excursions?

4. What else do people see when they go to this area?

- would anyone recommend anything else to see that is nearby?

- is it worth staying longer on the island to see some other things?

6. Any other tips/suggestions/advice? ... would really appreciate your input here :)

Thanks!
