Lighthouses are great to visit, and this us one of the best! Unfortunarely, the original house is beingcrenovated and thus closed. But the scenery and surroundings are what makes it worthwhile to come. Great place!

A trip to NL is not complete without a trip out to Cape Spear. You can almost hear the battles that took place to protect St. John's harbour. The view is spectacular. Work has been done on the caves to make them safer. It takes...More

The lighthouse was going under construction. But! The tunnels were even more interesting! They had some pretty big guns guarding the entrance to the St. John's harbor! The acoustics in the tunnel opening, facing the ocean was phenomenal! A bunch of us stood slightly in...More

The idea of standing at the most easterly point of the continent is appealing. The lighthouse had closed as it was the end of the season, but it was still worth seeing the site. In spite of the bleak conditions, wild flowers line the footpath...More

All Canadians should make a point of visiting Cape Spear and exploring its trails and vistas. But dress for lots of wind. The lighthouse is actually visible from downtown St. John's and well worth the drive to it.

This is short drive from St Johns. It has beautiful vistas and some nice walking paths. The old lighthouse is closed for renovation, so you will likely see all there is in under an hour. Once renovation is complete, it will probably be a 5star

From icebergs to whales, from nature to WW bunkers. It is a beautiful short stroll with views to blow you away! In front of you is the beautiful Atlantic Ocean with no land in site, next stop Europe!

Cape Spear offers beautiful scenery with lots of trails to enjoy. We were there close to sunset and the lighthouse was closed but we were most interested in the surroundings. Close enough to the city for a side trip and worth the journey.

We visited the Cape Spear Lighthouse at the start of a hike to Petty Harbour. It is situated on a desolate headland with a raw beauty and is the most easterly portion of continental North America. There is an interesting world war two gun battery...More

Cape Spear is as far east as you can go in North America and the lighthouse stands as a sentinel protecting ships from the dangerous rocky shores. Do walk up to the lighthouse to get the best views and even if the day is a...More

It’s worth a stop even for 30 minutes. We were there on a windy day in October. All the buildings were closed for the season, but it was well worth the visit to walk around and watch the waves. There was a lower parking lot... More
