On a recent visit to St. John's, we took a tour that included a visit to Cape Spear. Jutting out into the Atlantic, Cape Spear includes what is billed as the most easterly point in North America. Since Greenland, to the north and further east, is geographically part of North America, I'm not sure about the bona fides of Cape... More

Only claim to fame, this is Newfoundland, so scenery was spectacular. But a couple of old cannons and the oldest lighthouse in st John's does not an interesting site make. At least it is close to downtown, only a 15 minute drive out, so you can make it back for lunch. Everything is close in st John's, so hiking and... More

Arrived St. John's with a few hours before check in. Saw this historic site was nearby. Amazing views, a tour of the original lighthouse that was truly interesting, and lots of trails are all great, but the star of the show is the fog. I have never seen fog move around me like this - ribbons and fingers of mist... More

If you skip a flat stone to the east, you may not make it to England, but maybe to Ireland (just kidding. . ). The view is stunning: the Atlantic lies before you, the breeze is in your face, and the shoreline gets lost behind you. There are convenient benches to sit all day and watch for whales if you... Walked around the lighthouse and the surrounding areas. Lots of places to take pictures. It isn't hard to imagine the old ships travelling the seas and being thankful for the lighthouse at Cape Spear!

Took the tour and started at the most easterly point of North America. Walked through WW2 battlements and then to the lighthouse. Blueberries on the hill on the trail down

Exceptional scenery. Lots of signs telling people to stay to the paths and not attempt to get closer to the water for "a great shot". I ignored the signs and got about 20 feet from the crashing waves before I realized what a brainless idiot I am. At least that's what my aunt called me when I climbed back up... More

Great way to get away from the city and visit the most eastern point of Canada. Good hour treck to see the gorgeous and rugged coastline.

An easy and scenic drive from St Johns rewards with breath taking views and hiking trails. Parking is free! A fee is required to enter the lighthouse. How often can you say you were on the most eastern point in North America?

While it may not be the most iconic lighthouse, the history of Cape Spear is incredible and something that makes the place well worth visiting. It's also pretty neat to be as far east on North American soil as possible! We saw a number of whales while visiting Cape Spear.
