Lovely home and interesting to time in St. John's history. The guides are very knowledgeable and the initial exhibit where you buy your tickets was fun and interesting. Buy joint ticket with Newman Wine Vault and enjoy two interesting locations describing pieces of St. John's...More

Newfoundland was a British Colony for 100s of years, and this is where British colonial officials lived while in St. John's. You will get an idea of colonial society, and how the "upper class" lived, as well as seeing the "servant quarters". Lots of original...More

A unique building in St. John's, one spared from the 1892 fire! Very well entwined with the history of responsible government in the province! Anybody interested in how communication affected politics should see this.

Great displays of what the House looked like 200 years ago. The House has wonderful interpretive guides. Learned a little bit of Newfoundland history.

We recently visited the Commissariat House on a whim. We had hoped to go several times for special events (Christmas, etc), but the timing never worked out. We arrived around 10:30 and we're pleasantly greeted by a staff member. We spent about 20-25 minutes in...More

If you visit the Newman wine vaults, you receive free entry into this 1800s home. (I'm assuming it goes both ways). It is a quick place to visit and you can see how people lived during this time period. You can also try on the...More
