We popped along from our cruise ship. The pub was busy but we got a warm welcome. We had a fabulous time doing the screeching ceremony. We learned a lot about the traditions. Everyone who visits St John’s should go to this bar. I was smiling all the way back to the ship. Maybe that was the rum 🥰

This bar is not to be missed! The place to go and get screeched in by Skipper Lukey. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, never had as much fun or laughed as hard! Would definitely go back, it truly is a very welcoming place. And so with a nod, a wink and a "alright cock", long may your big gib draw!

If you're ever in St. John's Newfoundland, and want to get screeched in...GO TO CHRISTIANS BAR!! The atmosphere, the staff and of course the ceremony and presentation by Skipper Lukey is an experience you will never forget. It's funny, knowledgeable and very entertaining!!! We can't say enough about this place. We were walking down George Street going to get screeched in at another pub when someone recommended Christian's. I'm glad we listened. The service was excellent and Chef Lukey did an excellent job. He remembered everyone's name and is a great story teller. From kissing a frozen Cod to eating Bologna and the shot of screech, it was the best thing we did while visiting St. John's. It's no wonder why Christian's is the most popular place to get screeched in. You get a certificate at the end of the ceremony too.

If you plan to be screeched in, don’t look anywhere else. I’ve seen the ceremony many times at various locations but I’ve never witnessed it better than at Christian’s. Skipper Lukey puts on a show that you’ll remember as one of your highlights of your trip to St. John’s. Worth every cent.

So much to say about this place! It was sheer luck that landed us on the steps of this place just in time for a "Screech-In" ceremony. Four of us sat at the bar with about 22 others who were already signed up to become honorary Newfoundlanders. We were so very impressed with this but for reasons you should "experience" rather than read about. From the second we sat down, the fun began. Now, I will say, we were fortunate enough to be there on a night when "Marshall", the most entertaining bar tender ever, happened to be working. And I will add that we were a pretty fun group of four, so we all played off each other. Marshall played every song we requested and the entire bar sang along at the top of our lungs. Later in the evening, Brandon joined Marshall behind the bar and added to the fun. We sang, danced and drank for hours and it was the best bar experience any of us ever had! Book an appointment ( we were there on a Saturday night), sit at the bar, go early, stay til closing time! I wish I could include videos!!!

Skipper Lukey, aka Brian, puts on an amazing show. Make a reservation for 5pm, 700pm, or 900pm screech in ceremonies - online saves $5. We were so fortunate to get into one by chance. You learn some history, are entertained, get some screech, and get a certificate. Hey, even Anthony Bourdain went here to see the spectacle. Brian makes you feel welcome, doesn't make you do anything goofy (he is the only one to wear a hat!), and he even memorizes everyone in the group's names. We had a great experience.

A must do while in St. John's. Getting Screeched in (ceremony in which you become and official Newfoundlander) is a can't miss experience at Christian's Bar. Every local we talked to said this was by far the best place to do it. On our trip, we were able to see several other screeching ceremonies and none came close to this one. Brian (AKA Lukey) was very funny, informative, and entertaining. Do not be disappointed and book on-line ahead of time. They were often fully booked when we were there and that was early in the week before the tourist season was in full swing.

This was a definite highlight of our first trip to Newfoundland. My husband, friend and I had the best time getting Screeched in at Christian's Bar on May 22nd. Skipper Lukey (Brian) was absolutely amazing. He was a great storyteller, funny and very entertaining. He was also very personable and made us all feel welcome. It was recommended by a friend as a must do and it lived up to every expectation. We talked to several locals during our stay and they all agreed this is the best place. It was also great that he took the time to chat with us after. We saw other screech in ceremonies during our week long visit and nothing compared to this. We highly recommend!!!
