Our awesome experience in 2022 left us wanting more so we returned again in 2023 and brought friends!
Once again Carlos did not disappoint . A quick refresher and safety update and we were out in the lake , whisking safely to our midway break at the lovely lodge where we enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies around the roaring fire before heading out on our return trip through the breathtaking Boreal forest.
Carlos can keep you entertained for hours sharing his experiences and knowledge of the area. This is a definite must experience when visiting Yellowknife!

Three of us (all over 64 yrs old) on our first trip to Yellowknife, NWT.
We booked it to see the Snoking Ice Festival 1st & then spent the rest of our time with Carlos, from Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures. OMG! What a perfect trip we had! He was so accommodating, professional, attentive and VERY knowledgeable. Really patient with all the questions we had, even before we got there. None of us had ever been in those temps or driven a snowmobile before. We rented a jacket and snow pants from him. Started with the two hour snowmobile trip, across Great Slave Lake & through the Boreal Forest, with 4 other people. Lots of instructions & gear provided, to make sure we were safe. Felt very comfortable. Half way through, a warm up stop at the cabin, with a fire going, cocoa & cookies. So much fun! Definitely an experience none of us will EVER forget!
The next day we went on a dog sled ride. None of us were confident enough to mush ourselves, so he honored that request, for someone to do it for us. Beautiful day & ride, Had some bannock with jam provided prior & afterwards in the warming tent (with stove).
The last night we did the Aurora Borealis viewing Tour. Another beautiful night. The moon & stars were out. Out to the cabin again, in a van with treds for wheels (another 1st for us). Past the ice castle, across the Ice Road & across the lake again. Saw a fox while getting into the van. So cool. Mellow vibe at the cabin. Not sure we were going to see anything, because the wind was blowing & it had snowed. But, we lucked out on our last night. Amazing! When inside warming up, conversing with Carlos was also interesting. So many stories of adventures, a really down to earth guy. And he can speak to you in several languages. Such a great guide. HIGHLY recommended by all three of us.

Carlos was a personable guide who gave us a great introduction to Yellowknife both a city tour and a lake trip to a lodge for an authentic BBQ white fish locally caught. Carlos took us to view the Aurora on two nights when the weather conditions were favourable. He is a very knowledgeable outdoors man with years of experience fishing and hunting. It was a pleasure to deal with Carlos.

Great boat cruise in Great Slave Lake with Carlos and his crew from Outdoor Adventures. Great Slave Lake is incredible!!! All the houseboats, the islands - amazing. Best of all Fish Fry at Aurora Island. Once again Carlos and his crew served up an amazing meal!!! Can't beat fresh fish out is Great Slave Lake!!! We had the opportunity to explore the island before dinner and that in itself was amazing and quite an experience!! If you are ever in Yellowknife, highly recommend booking a cruise or fishing trip with Carlos. One of the best days of our time in Yellowknife!! 💖🥰

Four of us travelled to Yellowknife and booked a Lake Cruise and Fish Fry with Carlos.
It was the highlight of our trip! We joined 20 others on the cruise with Carlos, Danno and Shane. The trip to Aurora Island was incredible, we saw float planes & the floating houses as well a view of Yellowknife from the water. Carlos was very informative along the way, we learned a lot about the area, the lake and YK.
When we arrived at the island Carlos prepared a delicious meal of fish, carrots and salad, he even served dessert!
We had some time to explore around the island while the meal was prepared.
Danno and Shane shared stories with us of their experiences working with Carlos.
This tour is a must for anyone visiting Yellowknife.

Dealing with Carlos was nothing but exceptional. Right from the initial contact through to the final farewell, including his flexibility to accommodate us on short notice , everything was seamless.
Sledding at -32° didn’t feel cold, just exhilarating ! We chose the 2 hour nature trail ride which I am sure went closer to 3 hours, highlighted by a warming stop at Carlos cabin including hot chocolate and cookies . We were a small group and really enjoyed our conversation with Carlos.
Carlos has thought of everything so if you don’t have the right gear don’t fret. Office and launching point is convenient and easy. Five minutes and you are out of the city immersed in nature.
Our family definitely recommends YK Outdoor Adventures.
Thank you for making our experience an awesome one Carlos . We will be back!

I took the 2 hour snowmobiling tour and had an absolute blast. The tour operator made sure we had sufficient gear and training to keep us safe and after a few minutes, I got the hang of it and was confidently riding on Great Slave Lake. We stopped halfway through to take photos at a cabin, warm up, and have cookies and hot chocolate. They also took us on the trails on the way back which provided an added challenge and lots of fun with the bumps. The tour operator was never too far ahead and always circled back to make sure everyone was doing well and no one got lost. It was an amazing experience that I’m so glad I got to have. Thank you for an awesome tour. They also picked me right up from my B&B (and dropped me off there again) which was extremely convenient.

We never rode on a snowmobile before and while we were on an arctic vacation (primarily to see Aurora), wanted to try it. It was really terrific - driving our own snowmobiles (wife and I) as part of a small group over the lake. Had a nice break for hot chocolate at a cabin with a wood stove going and then back on the machines. Rode quite a bit then on some trails through a wilderness area before firing them back up at a pretty good speed across the lake again. This was another highlight for us on our trip to Yellowknife and since we had a really cloudy day with some snow, it gave us a good adventure to cover the fact we could not see Aurora that night (although we did wee it a couple other nights). Carlos is obviously an outdoors guy and encourages you to have a good time but makes sure it is safe. Just like it should be.

As a birthday surprise my S.O. took me snow mobiling at Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures. Carlos was very funny and easy going. He explained everything very well, made sure we were secure. During the tour he watched everything and made sure we got the most out of the experience. Highly recommend Carlos!

Had a great time as our group took a snowmobile tour with Carlos on Great Slave Lake. He had all the necessary gear and made sure we were all safe out on the lake.
It only took a few minutes to get used to how to operate the snow mobile and then we were off to kick up some snow.

The lights are the most active and visible in the winter, but travelling in January and February can be impractical if you don't already have the winter gear needed.
Friends of mine came up mid- to end-September and were able to see the lights really well. It's still warm enough then that you don't have to worry about bringing/ buying the right winter equipment. March is usually a little warmer as well, and during that time you can also see the ice castle and the Snow King events.
